We've seen them release cost reduced revisions of systems in the past with some of the enthusiast features of gimmicks removed.
Like when the Wii was a hit and they couldn't produce enough to keep up with demand they removed the Gamecube ports and got a newer revision of the chips to make it cheaper to manufacture.

I could totally see the next Switch hardware update being a smaller, cheaper Switch with some of the stuff that adds to the cost and complexity without adding much perceived value to consumers (hd rumble, removable joycons) while leaving in and improving on the stuff that is important (portability, tv dock).
Won't be surprised at all if its a Switch Lite with a soft refresh of the current Switch as the XL or without any notice at all like what they did with some of the GBAs.

I feel like that is a strong point of a console. I've always wanted a system I can take on a trip or plane or something without having to lug around a fuckhuge console + controller.
