I find it weird when both Hideo and Shinji Mikami are both obviously inspired by the Hannibal TV show simultaneously. Mads Mikkelsen in Death Stranding along with weird fucked up visuals, and Evil Within 2 having a very TV show Hannibal-esque villain along with the fucked up visuals.

Then you haven't watched the show. It has a lot of weird visual artsy shit in it even in mid-conversation, similar kind of visual imagery you see in both Death Stranding- and Evil Within 2 trailers. The villain in the EW2 trailer speaks and behaves a lot like Mads does in his role of Hannibal.

Hideo makes long ass cutscenes but he does ultimately create video GAMES. There's shit in Metal Gear Solid that "triple A" shit like Uncharted or Grant Theft Auto can't even come close to.

Can't be just a coincidence that both games suddenly involve Mads Mikkelsen or something very similar and weird and artsy visual gore fuckery. Hannibal in the TV show also loved to kill people and put them in artsy positions while classical music was playing in the backround. Main character tended to hallucinate Mads Hannibal as this black figure with stag horns that oozed black goo everywhere.

Not that I'm complaining, always nice to see where inspiration comes from, its just a very weird coincidence for them both to take inspiration from it. Either that, or the tv show just began to air on Japan year or two late and both love it.
