Luigi breaks a mirror and he and Mario get sucked into a world where their Mario and Luigi are Saturday Morning Cartoon style villains.
Half the game is straight Mario and Luigi gameplay and the other half has you play Evil Mario and Meanie Luigi where you time your action commands to fuck up on purpose. Bosses have all four fight at once at a scripted location, so you're managing different timings for different attacks based on who's turn it is. Bonus points for Good Boy Bowser with warm cinnamony breath and final boss Bitch Peach who uses the magic power of Hate to stamp out all love in the Moorhsum Kingdom.

Mario & Luigi: Beauty and the Fire Breathing Beast

So blah blah Bowser teams up with some villain OC and kidnaps the princess, and the Bros go out to save her.

Half way through, the OC villain says that he has plans to use Peach in some way that Bowser doesn't agree with (probably use Peach as a vessel for some evil spirit or something that involves putting her in danger). So Bowser wants to cut off ties with the villains, but its already too late since the villain was just using Bowser for his real evil plans. Bowser gets thrown in a prisoner cell, which so happens to be the same cell that Peach is in. After an awkward moment and some funny bits, they call a truce to team up, break free from the real villain, and meet with the Bros to stop everything.

Peach and Bowser get their own "Bros" Moves in battle. Bowser turning into his spikey ball form, and Peach kicking him at the enemies. Bringing back Peach's levitation magic, and using it to lift up Bowser to the sky for a meteor crash body slam. And even one where Bowser calls in an air ship, with Peach at the helm and giving the orders to shoot the big bowser bomb cannon.
