What games did you play to distract yourself when your parents would start yelling again?
The "call CPS" game.
None because when they started yelling it was usually at me.
Hide and Seek

Pokemon or Sonic until I got tired enough to go confront them.

I guess I was lucky then. When my family would start yelling it was like I didn't exist so I could squirrel away.

I did not play video games when that happened. I was not allowed to have a pc or tv on my room till I was 18. I just hid away and imagined better places until it was time to eat dinner in silence.
14 years I still can't be around them for long.

*14 years later
Nothing, both the family computer and the consoles were in the living room while I had to lock myself in my room. Then I got a GBC and Pokemon Gold so I just played that. I don't have very fond memories of Pokemon Gold.

Did you manage to escape?
My parents didn't yell at each other

>I was not allowed to have a pc or tv on my room till I was 18
What
I mean I wasn't allowed to have a phone until I was 15 but holy shit this is a complete extreme.

Nah I still live with them, I just understood how to deal with my dad that was considerably more strict with me when I was a kid. Now I can even swear at him jokingly when we talk and he doesn't even care. We still have disagreements and will yell at each other every couple of weeks but nothing compared to back them.

Why would you distract yourself? Embrace the pain and become invincible.
This is a cold world and you need to become ice in order to dominate it. Real men have destination in live and dont need to flee reality to protect their feelings.
>>387629967
Yes true to an certain effect. You should not protect your child from every dragon. But be wary that you do not become your own childs dragon. Your child has enough to deal with during growing into an adult to be distracted by a monster living with them that they cannot possibly confront

>Cold world

But aren't the climates becoming hotter?

I was asking the child why he was behaving like that. You definitly have a point and in a perfect world i wouldnt ask, but i dont think he can influence his parents to not yell.
But i mean there are really worse things that could happen to a child than listening to his parents arguing, arent there? So why not man up and reflect on their behavior instead of distracting yourself with games? This is just the way you get addicted to shit.

There is a reason the father and mother figure are sacred in so many cultures, and every child baseline level is that of whorship towards the parents. It is rediculously difficult for them to break through that. This is however just an explanation for the behavior, not an excuse.

>Father(who is now dead thankfully from cancer) was always the one that started arguments(was a Vietnam Vet and ended up having anger problems and if it does get real bad he gets violent and will attack)
>Whenever that shit happens, I grab my knife in case he tries to attack me si I will slash/stab back in self defense
>Had to have the cops on him a few times to keep him in order or have him locked up for a day if he goes into his violent rage
Having a war vet for a father was the worst fucking thing in my life. If you have a war vet father, move the fuck out ASAP.
I guess there was at least *one* good thing about being raised by a single mother...

As if 10 year old me could have "manned up" and confronted grown adults. Do remember how much bigger and stronger adults were to you then? Do you know how much louder they can be? And if they're also your caretakers you rely on?
>So why not man up and reflect on their behavior instead of distracting yourself with games?
Let me tell you, I had ample time to ponder human nature. It's not something a kid is gonna dispassionately sit and ponder like a philosopher every time the usual storm kicks up. It is emotionally exhausting and you just need a distraction.
I would have to join in and be the adult at 13 fucking years old because my parents are retarded children who want to be young again
When my moms ex and her screamed at each other, I would play Pokemon Ruby. I got a shiny Trapinch during one of their fights.
I have bad memories attached to Yoshi's Story because I got the game just after having my tonsils removed and I was in a lot of pain and while playing it my parents got into a bad fight and my dad got black out drunk and then came up into my room to see me and passed out on the floor in the middle of my room
>>387633710
By manning up i didnt mean to hit your father with a rock. I meant to DEAL with your OWN emotions like a man(since they obviously make your life bad and you cant change the situation) by reflecting and coming to results you can live with, instead of locking them up and fleeing reality. Doing this you dont progress and cant deal with the it easier the next time. Instead you get addicted to playing games to deal with emotional stress like other people use drugs or food.
Also you as man shouldnt be afraid of big and loud people. There will always be people bigger and louder than you and it's no excuse to not stand up against them. This is a very basic fear you should overcome instead of justifying weak behavior with it.
My parents didn't really "fight" fight but when they were arguing and clearly moving towards divorce I remembered I was playing morrowind at the time and turned the sound up loud.

>>387636076
>australia
>not third world
>>387636347
So what did your parents do to you? Clearly it didn't work.
I didn't, usually my "mother" would get me to join in. Once she left him she had no one to focus her mental illness on and shifted it to me. Woo childhood abuse and trauma.
this is kinda unrelated but I was thinking of stuff like this.
Like, I personally understand that I am absolutely unfit to raise a child, but other people just do not understand. It must just be because we are organisms in the end, and we feel like we have to carry on our genetic code, so we fuck and make babies when we can't take care of them at all, let alone ourselves. I KNOW that great families exists out there in the world. Maybe not like a movie or a game or something but I KNOW that people can have a family that isn't fucked. It must just begin with two people who are actually in love, 100% with eachother, who are both emotionally strong enough to handle creating a family without emotionally fucking scarring everyone in the process.
Sorry if I sound SUPER, DUPER edgy or like, really "deep" or anything; I don't mean to be, I'm just venting. Not even trying to add to discussion lol, don't even worry about this post, its not hurting you or your brain like people's parents do every day lol

>Living in a broken home
My parents divorced when I was a baby and I had no siblings so I spent most of my childhood alone in a dark room playing NES, then SNES and Genesis. No yelling because my parents weren't there. I do remember one time my mom was getting abused by one of her random alcoholic boyfriends and I played Mario 2 until the cops showed up and made me turn it off because I had to leave the apartment.
When i see threads like this i understand while people still think vg is for retards.... too many weak people who cant stand the real world in it.
>>387636619
>taking shit from someone with mental illness
It's like getting beaten up by a baby. Should have pushed her down the stairs, flushed medication, hid recordings around the house to make her think she's hearing voices, etc...

Yes you are. Maybe you're as nuts as your slut mother and think you're two different people.
>>387628027
Honestly when my parents argued I would eavesdrop out of curiosity and see who was right. Problem was, by the time it got loud enough to hear, they stopped talking about anything relevant and just traded insults.
>>387628027
I would often wake up in the morning directly because of the yelling.

Kek I wish. Children unfortunately tend to not be too bright in that regard. Her illness wasn't bipolar or schizo, more clinical narcissism/borderline personality disorder with a mix of anger issues. Some people shouldn't be allowed kids

In that case I think an ass beating would have sufficed. Something tells me after being beaten unconscious the first time, she'd get the idea who's in charge.

Generally because there are no consequences for the actions of women. Literally 100% of the domestic issues in my childhood home were caused by my mother, but the cops arrest men by default in domestic disputes. That leads to women discovering they can act as shitty as they want and get away with it. Worst case scenario they file for divorce, where they will probably get custody when they claim their husband hit them, and then also get child support and alimony along with it.
this is 4 chan. everyone here either came from a broken home or had a perfect home and did nothing with its advantages.
Is this actually America? People fighting their own parents in the streets?
