The only thing I can think of why people play as girls are because they do not role play in their heads. Like get super immersed in the game and try to act like you would. Instead they are more disconnected and view it as a movie so they want something pretty to look at.

I just prefer the way I can customize female characters. It doesn't hurt that I prefer melee, so the strong woman is a nice contrast to the standard "badass". I like to play dress up too, so that definitely works better with a female character.
