I'll put it this way. It's a game for people who like games. There is no bullshit when you play Rocket League kickoffs aside, you are not picking some dude who's abilities counter some other character's abilities, you will be focusing on mastering both fundamental skills and teamwork, but not because the game forces you to rely on a team by limiting what you are capable of as an individual.

tl;dr it's mechanically shallow, the controls questionable whether they are intentionally or not restrictive by design and if the rest of the game doesn't give you sores from playing it it's a fair time waster.

Avoid if things like co-ordination with a team and being able to move in a way that makes any kind of sense are important to you. The former least of all because the UI is so non-existent they think tracking your team's position is not really relevant.

i have a love/hate relationship with rocket league. i've put easily over a thousand hours in to it and my skill level has always been inconsistent. one game i am a god hitting accurate shots all over the place, next game i'm a fucking failtron noob missing everything. i believe it's due to ping. 30ms is a huge difference when making good shots at high speeds and i'm positive the game lies about what your ping really is just so people keep playing without feeling like it's pointless because your ping sucks

PS. Never implied shallow is bad, but it's a fucking video game and that puts it at the shallow end of the spectrum compared to CS or Dota. Drive car (with simple arcade physics by the way, a distinction to be made with the entire driving genre) and hit ball is the majority of the game. Jetpack is added for depth, but it still isn't any more complex and only marginally more obtuse than bunnyhopping in an FPS - and even then they have more depth without this through arsenals alone.
