Eh, there's some quests that were pretty enjoyable. Someone should make a chart like with Nier 1 on which sidequests are worth doing and which ones you can skip. Mandatory inclusions are Amnesia, Wandering Couple, the two Operator's questlines, and Emil's questline, and Gathering Keepsakes (if you've done Emil's quest). Idiot Savant, the Shut in, and the stamp one were pretty hilarious, and don't take very long to do.

The one thing this game utterly failed at is it's gameplay, ironically.

It's literally the most basic hack-and-slash garbage. It's flashy, and it feels satisfying, but there's absolutely no depth to it at all. I think they realized this which is why 9S had the ability to hack stuff, but the hacking minigame got really repetitive after awhile. They should've gave you more opportunities to manually control the robots, like I remember I was in the desert area and the game let me control a robot with a minigun on his arm, so I just ran around doing the mission while blasting the shit out of robots with a minigun. There should have been more shit like that, it gave the game a lot more substance from a gameplay perspective, or more times like playing through the factory mission as 9S where you could only control robots.

The main appeal of the game is it's story and awkward, bizarre atmosphere. If you don't like playing games for their stories then don't play NieR I guess.

Tales of Berseria was boring, and it had an awful battle system

Nier: Automata had an easy/cool battle system (weapon damage+6 & Shockwave+6), but the story was generic, and multiple playthroughs for short cutscenes was insulting.

Yakuza 0 had a really slow start, and massive plotholes, but the later half of the game was great.

Breath of the Wild had horrid graphics for a new system, but it was still far more respectable than most of the JRPGs released this year

Horizon Zero Dawn had a generic story, awesome graphics, and a meh battle system

Resident Evil 7 is overrated as fuck, and doesn't even feel like a Resident Evil game

If by multiple playthroughs you mean:

2nd route was first route but with a new character with a new playstyle, as well as new sidequests and new content being unlocked that you couldn't access in the 1st route. Also, story quests are changed drastically in some cases as you're playing them from a different perspective.

3rd route is an entirely new route.
