It was never great but the experience can vary depending on what system you're using. Gamecube is probably the best. The PS2 version is ass.

Grand Metropolis and Egg Fleet

I played it on PC and the Team Sonic run was fun. Very flawed but varied and short in an almost arcadey way. The rest was boring and barely remixed, the only exception being Team Chaotix which was still not worthwhile, so I just got a 100% save file and took on the final boss and it was surprisingly fun. I like the idea of Metal Sonic wanting to prove he's the "real Sonic" so hard he goes insane and becomes a 90s Gamera-esque monstrosity instead.

I think I liked it more than SA2.

Heroes was where they began to try and add in angled movement accounting for velocity.
