Tokimeki Memorial. I forget if it's translated or not and it's very old, but it's fucking good. You actually need to level up and raise your stats (study, work out, etc.) to become more attractive to girls who are outright cunts to you and reject your sorry ass if you're not attractive/smart enough (so it's very realistic too) also they spread rumors about you throughout the school if they see you with another girl. The game ends when you confess to someone though so you don't actually get to play the dating parts (might be for the better). Amazing game, can't believe the level up + VN sims genre is basically dead and everyone just does straight up VNs nowadays, it's so much more fun when there's a gameplay element to it.

Amagami, PS2. Not translated yet, but in progress. Considered one of the greatest VNs/dating sims out there. No leveling up per se, but tons and tons of events you can choose between and lots of freedom to do what you want, so it's fantastic. Cleverly thought out conversation system that lets you choose the topic of discussion. Great fun.

Love Plus/Love Plus Plus (DS/3DS). Game where you choose one of 3 girls and go out with her. As in actually go on virtual dates and talk into the mic and kiss the touchscreen and shit. Fun for a bit, but gets boring quickly (just like actual dating)! Basically an upgraded tamagotchi that you want to fuck. Try it out for the novelty factor.
