It's near impossible for me to play any singleplayer games nowadays. I don't touch anything story-driven, not even most RPGs. Only games with mind numbing routine and grind are bearable for me. Probably has something to do with the fact that I'm a full-time wageslave and five years into it I think I've finally lost my soul. Not sure where to go from here desu

I think it might have something to do with having everything available at all times.

As I kid, I had the few games I'd get a year plus whenever we could rent one. Those games were explored relentlessly and played until I literally had nothing more to do in them anymore. I remember playing Double Dragon 2 NES all weekend and getting a speedrun down to 15 minutes, thinking that was the coolest shit.

Now, I've got the internet and disposable income. Sometimes it feels like I finish a game just to move on to the next one in my giant backlog, not because I was enjoying it. And if I find a game just even slightly annoying in a mechanic, I can just drop it and play another without fear of running out.

I think my limited options made me appreciate what I had more.

Fucking this. Everyone shit's on open world games now, understandably, but games like GTA San Andreas and Ultimate Spider-Man had so much cool shit. That's to say nothing when it comes to mastering more linear games.
