In what way? They just aped the greats that came before them and played it safe trying to make fewer errors than them. Their one boundary push was including a second analog stick which caught on and became an industry standard against most people's predictions at the time.

They weren't the first to appeal to Bad Boiz™ that was Sega. They weren't the first to try and monopolize exclusives, that was Nintendo. They weren't the first to buy exclusivity, that was Microsoft. They didn't introduce paid online. They didn't introduce microtransactions.
