About to start playing this. What am I in for? Bought it solely cuz I love Dishonored and Dishonored 2

Fun
but Dishonored is shit though
>>
>>387436970
Prey AND Dishonored are awesome and have great atmosphere, you pleb
>>
>>387436846
I bought it because I love Dishonored as well. Prepare to be so, so fucking disappointed.
>>
>>387436970
>Dishonored was shit but Prey is good
wow, talk about abysmal taste

Boooooring.

would you guys get mad if I fucked your moms?
>>
>>387437595
Fuck off, dad.
>>
>>387436846
It's pretty fun for the first couple of playthroughs. There are still lingering performance issues, but nothing too bad.

The game plays like a modern System Shock. It's much more streamlined (positive or negative depending on your taste), and the story is pretty engaging. There is some sjw "diversity" shit in the writing, but nothing too obvious or abrasive.

Honestly, I genuinely enjoyed it. That said, there are a very limited number of enemy types, and very limited weapon selection. For your first playthrough, I'd recommend playing a moralfag and trying to safe everyone you can.
>>
>>387437595
I'd be mad if you didn't
>>
can stop for a moment and explain how anyone can who has played dishonored 1 can "love" Dishonored 2? I wanted to love it so bad but it just fell kind of flat. it's fine. I put in a few hours but its just not even close to 1.
>>
Basically a modern SS2. It has nothing to do with Prey; that was a Bethesda corporate decision.
But yeah, it's a pretty great game.
I actually liked the ending and don't see what people are yelling about.
>>
>>387436846
My advice is decide already whether you want to play as a human or as an alien because they play very differently and you will experience the game very differently.
>>
>>387437807
wow i need an afternoon cup of coffee... let me try that again....
how can anyone who has played dishonored 1 can "love" Dishonored 2?
>>
>>387437817
That ending was great. I was huge dick the entire game and the ending was unexpectedly satisfying.
>>
>>387437852
Alien is way more fun, but human isn't bad.
>>
>>387437167
This.
I'm a huge dishonored fan but i returned this after getting about a quarter way through it. Then again I heard it is good on pc and not meant for consoles (played on xbone).

Good game, but some rather poor balancing issues make it way more fun if you intentionally gimp yourself. Which is bad. You should not have to consciously make sub-optimal decisions just to secure the level of challenge the game always should have been, and you should not be able to accidentally overpower yourself to a point of ruining nearly any challenge just by exploring the game options.

It has some other issues, though most of them are related to the balancing (the need to restrain yourself from using certain upgrades to maintain challenge in the game makes looting and consequently some of the exploring feel unrewarding), it's a little bit front-loaded in terms of mechanics (weapons and enemy types in particular), and the story is... meh. It's not as bad as most people tend to present it, but it's a bit clumsy.

With that all said: the core gameplay loop is fantasy, the environmental and level design is some of the best you'll see since the Golden Era.

Ignoring the balance, most of the mechanics feed into each other really well. The game really rewards creativity and curiosity, and does a good job of anticipating it. It's remarkably faithful to it's design philosphy and does not compromise it - despite what some people say, the game is not trying to be "bit of everything, master of none" - it's design is mostly very consistent.
Atmosphere is great. Exploration is mostly great. Environments are amazing. Combat design is really good once you finally figure out that it's not a shooter. Enemy design is good, if lacking in variety.

It's one of the best AAA games released in the past decade or so. Such a damn shame that there just apparently isn't market for this golden-era-inspired games anymore.
>>
>>387437807
>>387437890
Because Dishonored 2 is mostly just the same shit with some improvements. The story is worse but almost everything else is the same or better.

System Shock meets Bioshock.

>>387436970

Dishonored was OK but Dishonored 2 was much better.

Arkane seems to be trying to revive the old Deus Ex/System Shock type games but with contemporary flair. I'm cool with them.
>>
>>387439130
Not that anon (and not secretly am that anon either) but Dishonored 2 level design are much better than the first one, better soundtrack and the story if you play as Emily is quite good since it revolves around the theme of maturity. I picked the non lethal ending because it made sense that we should undo Jessamines mistakes
>>
>>387440092
I'm pretty sure that little adventure is over now that their last two games massively underpreformed.
>>
>>387440336
>implying Bethesda doesn't have enough money to let them do more unique shit
New IPs in the day and age are always a risk.
>>
Hows the soundtrack in this game?
>>
>>387440436
Dishonored 2 was not a new IP, and technically speaking neither was Prey... And I don't worry about Beth not recovering. I worry about them losing trust in Arkane's design philosophy. They have money but they aren't charity - they are not employing Arkane to make tax write-offs and balance the karma of their god-awful Beth-Soft games.
They have them to make smash hits, and Arkane are not producing those anymore. In fact with commercial failures of HR:MD, Dishonored 2 and Prey, it's actually very clear from a business perspective that immersive sims and golden-era approach to game design does NOT HAVE MARKET OR AUDIENCES TO SUPPORT IT.

It's like with cRPG's or RTS games: vocal minority demanded it, one or two titles broke away, but the moment the novelty of it wore off, any tolerance of the audience was gone, and no core audience large enough to justify the investment was left.
>>
>>387440898
Prey was supposed to be a brand new IP named Typhoon or some shit. It was only changed to Prey so they didn't lose the license.

You're in for a good game.
If you liked dishonored and it's movement as well as options/routes for getting to objectives, you'll find this game is a gem.

Bought it for 45 dollars not even mad 8.75/10 game, two playthroughs.
>>
>>387440336

I haven't been keeping up with the press or even /v/'s reaction to them. When the games came out I didn't have them so I didn't read the threads. I recently got to play all three back to back and I thought they were enjoyable enough. I can see why they don't appeal to the general gamer though.
>>
>>387438989
If he really likes Dishonored, he probably doesn't notice these problems at all, because they're exactly the same in that regard. You need to place restrictions on yourself to create any meaningful challenge.

At least there's a mod for Prey that brings back some of the hardcore features they cut during development.

>>
>>387440898
Bethesda only have themselves to blame for mismanaging all their studios acquired through hostile buyouts.
>>
>>387437703
This is pretty spot on. It made some good changes from SS2 (weapons don't need to be repaired) but left out some good stuff, like meaningful build types. You get upgrade units thrown at you, so by endgame you're a God, whereas in SS2's endgame, you're just a specialist in whichever build you chose.
>>
>>387440959
Nah, it wasn't. Prey was forced on Arkane, in exchange for high degree of creative freedom. Arkane has still been making basic pitch and brain-storming on VERY CONCEPTUAL design months after the decision to task Arkane with making a Prey game leaked to the public.

It basically must have gone something like this:
Bethesda: "Yo, Arkane! You busy?"
Arkane: "Not really, just drafting up that Dishonored sequel you wanted us to make..."
B: "Great, great! So... we need you to take over the Prey project HH has been doing..."
A: "No."
B: "Aw come on! Why not?"
A: "Because it's shit project in a shit IP?"
B: "It's not that bad..."
A: "We are not touching it with a ten foot pole."
B: "Look, you don't have to stay close! We just need to make to justify the investment to our shareholders."
A: "No."
B: "Come on! Think of it as an opportunity! You can re-invent it entirely! We'll let you do what ever you want!"
A: "It's fucking Prey. No."
B: "Seriously you can make anything you want! Blank check! All you need to do, bro, all you need to do is just take the damn IP name."
A: "Anything? Like, seriously?"
B: "Yeah. Anything."
A: "Well, we really always wanted to make a proper System Shock..."
B: "Sure! Sure! Whatever, just fucking sign it!"
A: "Oh fuck me... we're going to regret this, aren't we? We'll start dropping of pitches next month."

And that is it. They were pressured into taking it, they saw it as an opportunity, they started brainstorming their ideas once the project was already not only signed, but also leaked to the public.

>>387442015
You... expect Bethesda to be self-aware and rational?
You do realize they came up with the idea to call the game Prey in the first place? If Bethesda was not a bunch of brain-dead corporate retards, this whole shit could have been prevented in the first place.
>>
>>387442026
Check out this mod >>387441876

It changes and adds a bunch of shit, but most notably it forces you to actually specialize since upgrades will cost 2-3 times more neuromods
>>
>>387442174
I think it was a very good System Shock game, and a better "Bioshock" than Infinite.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see the ship actually orbit. Seems like a small detail but it's such a nice touch and makes the ship feel more real and alive.

>I think it was a very good System Shock game, and a better "Bioshock" than Infinite.
Oh, I'm not disputing the quality of the game. I was fucking thrilled by it like I wasn't with an AAA game in years.

I'm just saying that it's not a repainted old project - it was Arkane basically improvising when thrown an IP they had absolutely no interest in and pressured into picking it up.

I don't doubt TONS of ideas they have been keeping in their drawers for decades have eventually made it into the game. But there was no production on it before it was assigned the Prey IP. No "older project called Typhoon".
>>
>>387443478
Well, if anything, this should give confidence to Arkane as a developer for Bethesda.

Give them enough creative freedom and they can turn an IP left in development hell into a pretty great game.

What part is this? I remember some cells like that but they were all empty.

You can save some people I think. The crowd at the safe house in shipping &receiving will have different people determined on who you kill or stun in the crew quarters or other parts of the game.
