Holy shit I love this game now.

Why did no one tell me the introduction is terrible but the actual game is great?
>>
>>387382272
Because swarms of ME1 fans will just come in and talk about how everything after it is awful and how the Mako is great and that Liara is their waifu.
>>
>>387382405
fpbp
>>
>>387382272
Everything after ME1 was awful
>>
the intro to 1 is boring as fuck

the intro to 2 is literally you fucking dying

how can you fuck this up?
>>
>>387382658
The intro to 1 is a really involved introduction to the politics, races, etc. of Mass Effect. It's great because it sets up an air of intrigue and focuses your attention on thinking about what they can do with this new universe of characters.

ME2's intro is dogshit. It's action movie tier and has terrible gameplay. It gets good as soon as you hit Omega but still, fucking terrible opening hour.
>>
>>387382405

The Mako was great though. Especially compared to the Hammerhead, which is made out of paper mache.
>>
>>387382658

The intro to 1 was great. The only issue was that Nihlus wasn't around longer.
>>
>>387382405
Ashley is the superior ME1 dick sleeve. much easier to relate to than the robotic Liara.
>>
>>387382902
>Mako is great
>play on Insanity
>have to spend 10 years peaking missile turrets or they'll blast you to smithereens
>backing over Geth armatures again and again

And it's not even like the fucking terrain is designed for it, so many retarded vertical mountain ranges to slowly climb.
My favorite ME moment is looking at the earth during the luna mission but damn was this thing cancer most of the time.
>>
>>387382272

Seasons don't fear the reaper.
>>
>>387383176
get up close and hit them with sabotages then spam marksman.
>>
>>387382902
>Object A is bad
>Object B is introduced and is worse
>this makes Object A good
I don't get this logic.
>>
>>387382272
Objectively the best Mass Effect game, people who prefer 1 are just blinded by nostalgia
>>
>>387383361

Or A was just good and B was just bad.
>>
>>387383369
nah, 2 is pretty crappy
>>
>>387383014

Unpopular opinion, but I agree. Neither are great waifus, but Liara is incredibly bland. At least Ashley is a character.
>>
>>387383176
>play on Insanity
That's your first mistake. Difficulties like that are meant to be bullshit and unbalanced.
>>
>>387383525
2 had better combat, a better story, a better engine, and better characters
>>
>>387382902

The Mako is actually pretty fun during the story missions but sucks during the planet exploration sidequests.
>>
>>387383635

>>
>>387383635

I'll give you everything else, but come on, ME2 barely has a story.
>>
>>387383635
>>387383731
>>387383741
personally I never thought Mass Effect characters were good. the world/atmosphere was what was good
>>
>>387383635
>better characters

The only good characters in 2 were your original squadmates from 1 and the mercenary guy I forget what his name is.

>better story

Fuck you.
>>
People shit on ME2 too much, it's fuckin awesome.
>>
>>387383525
Wow, all those objective and subjective criticisms you dropped sure convinced me.
>>
>>387382902
>The Mako was great though.
Your low standards for gameplay make it easy to disregard everything you fucking say.

>Shepard dies and this is well publicized
>Just comes back to life
>No one questions it after a simple "Oh I'm not dead anymore" from Shepard

It was kinda stupid DESU

I enjoyed the second game, but this is just objectively wrong.
>>
ME2 had shit pacing and lacked the atmosphere and intriguing setting of 1.
>>
>>387383993
I think the ways you can interact with characters and the world are much better though
>>
>>387383919
Did you even play the game?

Half of the fucking NPCs don't initially trust you because they think you're a Cerberus puppet.
>>
>>387383843
lol you're not entitled to my criticisms fucktard
>>
>>387384028
You mean Kaidan/Ashley? Everyone else just says okay whatever.
>>
>>387383635
>a better story
What story?
>>
What are some good spacecore games that came out this gen and I can play on consoles? I know about Andromeda and I'm extremely weary of picking it up. I just wanna chillax in space.
>>
>>387383797
ME2 easily has a better cast. ME1 has Garrus, Tali and Wrex, while the other three are mediocre at best. The only party member who is as bad as them in ME2 is Jacob.

>>387383993
>>387384025
Gonna disagree strongly here. ME1 was shit about giving any attention to the worlds. ME2 actually fleshes out the non-human races and lets you see places where they live and stuff.
>>
>>387384158
>The only party member who is as bad as them in ME2 is Jacob.
Miranda is also fucking terrible.
>>
>>387383176
>Play Newgame+ on insanity
>Mako gun is ineffective against anything
>Get out and shoot armature with sniper rifle
>It one shots the armature
>Proceed to do Mako missions on foot

>>387383919
If you believe Indoctrination theory, Shepard never actually died. Also, it wasn't that heavily publicized because most characters seem to think Shepard was just missing.

>>387383947
ME3's ending is wildly different than what it was going to be when ME2 was made. Originally ME3 was going to deal with the Dark Matter plotline that 2 has as a running theme.
>>
>>387384158
Basically every party member in 2 who isn't Garrus, Thane, Zaeed or Mordin is pretty forgettable.
>>
>>387384158

Tali is a garbage character in both games. I have no idea why people suck her dick so hard.
>>
Same. I played recently and had a blast. I hated ME1 on PC and surprised how much I had fun with this one.

But most criticisms are right. Customization are mostly stripped and you barely feel the effects since it really plays like a regular shooter. There's only 4 skills for some reason. Planet scanning is retarded, it didn't expand the lore so much, and the plot while okay it isn't get the overall trilogy plot going.

>>387384028
Almost everyone just a bit surprised and shrugged it off that Shepard is alive. Only Ashley (or Kaidan) had a remotely realistic reaction.
>>
>>387384259

The Dark Matter storyline was ditched during 2's development.
>>
>>387384298
>I have no idea why people suck her dick so hard.
It's because she has a cute accent and nice hips.
>>
>>387384305
>Planet scanning is retarded
Eh I kinda like it.
If only for the lulz of sending probes to Venus and shit
>>
>ME1
>could explore worlds in the Mako
>neat lore descriptions of planets
>had that retro sci-fi space opera feel
>felt like you were going on some epic quest

>ME2
>no exploration just harvest minerals
>less lore descriptions of worlds
>felt like Michael Bay modern day action movie
>story didn't progress at all. felt like a pointless detour

>>
>>387384451
I think you managed to capture why I like ME1 better than ME2-3.

I've never actually been able to articulate it before.
>>
>>387384063
>Let me validate that everything I say is shit.
k.

>>387384091
Wrong!

Garrus and Tali do as well but your actions in getting them speak to your validity so they don't press it. Admiral Hackett questions it but because you have a shared end goal, he flies with it. Anderson is willing but reluctant and Udina just rubs it more in your face because he always disliked you.

There are plenty more but I haven't played ME2 in years. This is just off the top of my head.

You fucking betas are crying about how shit it is while us chads were enjoying the fuck out of it, the highest difficulty is easily one of the best ways to play the game and made every encounter fun and tactical. Mass effect 1 was also good and felt like a better story but I had a better experience overall in ME2.
>>
>>387384403
How

The only remotely exciting about planet scanning was hoping that there's gonna be a mini mission
>>
>>387384587
Garrus never gave a fuck.
>>
>>387382405
And they would be correct.

To be fair, there are somethings that 2 is better than 1 - but it's very few things.
>>
>>387384298
Aside from her being a sorta cutesy tech girl, part of it was that she was unobtainable in ME1, and people always want what they cannot have.

Personally I think that helps her romance, since you actually take time to build up to a romance, instead of her just immediately giving your dick uguu eyes like Liara does.
>>
>>387382272
I hated 2 because they removed rpg elements from the game, and for what they did to solider. I also fucking hate how you couldn't just buy/ pick up guns, you had to wait for the game to give you one. Had the piece of shit three burst assault rifle for half of the game, had the even worse three burst pistol for longer, didn't even get a sniper for just as long, even doing most of the side quests I could, but at that point, the alien assault rifle and incendiary ammo clear whole rooms in one clip.
>>
>>387383176
This is far more a problem with the insanity difficulty putting too much HP in enemies than with Mako.

You could lift an enemy, throw him to the other side of the planet, and he would have so much HP that not only he would not die, but he would regen all his HP until you get to where he fell.

You mean chunks of worlds that were unpopulated and completely bland.
>neat lore descriptions of planets
Mass Effect 2 has this as well, hell even ME:A has it.
>had that retro sci-fi space opera feel
The entire series does, stupid.
>felt like you were going on some epic quest
And ME2 doesn't?
>N-not in my opinion.
k.

>no exploration just harvest minerals
Fair criticism.
>less lore descriptions of worlds.
Fluff isn't required to satiate your autism.
>felt like Michael Bay modern day action movie
I wont even respond to this nonsense in a meaningful way.
>story didn't progress at all. felt like a pointless detour
I hope you didn't play any side quests in ME1. I wouldn't want you to break your immersion and agency!
>>
>>387384867
>The entire series does, stupid.

It does not, anon.
>>
>>387384774
>instead of her just immediately giving your dick uguu eyes like Liara does
To be fair, she was certain she was going to die in those ruins. The only question was when.
>>
>>387384451
I'm sorry, but lore descriptions in 2 was great if not better
>>
>>387384298
What's so garbage about her?
>>
>>387382272
I flip between preferring 1 and 2.

There are a lot of things 1 does better than 2, especially in terms of writing, atmosphere and the actual story/missions, but there's also a lot of painful boring shit to get through on 1. 2 is much more intuitive and the impact of it's improved combat can't be understated. I've played through the trilogy a couple of times and there's always a bit of a relief when you get into the first fight and everything feels so much better.

It's like everything that was great about ME1 is watered down or removed in 2, and everything that's great about 2 are the things that 1 desperately needed.

Jack best waifu 2bh
>>
>>387384774
The writing for her changes so drastically between games that she is basically a totally different character in each one. In fact that goes for Liara too. The story also has them getting increasingly implausible jobs that they are in no way qualified for over a ridiculously small period of time.
>>
How many optional planets are there in ME1?
>>
>>387385257
How is it drastically different?
>>
>>387382272
ME3 wasn't too bad either until the shitty ending.

Marauder Shields was trying to prevent you from suffering through it.
>>
>>387382817
>It gets good after x amount of hours.
>>
>>387384961
Yes, it does, they all have the same creative director, Casey Hudson and the art director, Derek Watts laid the foundation the entire series to follow but great response, dumbass. You totally convinced me of your point.
>>
>>387385509
>ME1 - Liara goes from an introverted, dorky bookworm with a desire to learn and explore.
>ME2 - Liara becomes the fucking Shadow BORKER, the biggest, baddest keeper of secrets and mastermind of the criminal underworld.
>ME3 Who cares?
By then, Liara was forgettable. There were better waifus to choose from.
>>
>>387386175
I meant Tali.
>>
>>387382272
ME2 is a good game, but it makes so many mistakes with the plot that ME3 couldn't save it even if it tried.
>>
>>387386235
Tali stayed very consistent in my opinion. It wasn't until that horrible Citadel DLC that she became cringeworthy as fuck.
>>
>>387386370
She herself may stay somewhat consistent, but the way she goes from a teenager on her rite of passage journey to one of the five co-rulers of her species in 2 years was ridiculous
>>
>>387384643
He couldn't because like the beta male he is, he was getting his entire team killed when he tried to be like Sheperd on Omega and you up and save his sorry ass and complete his mission. Like Sheperd always does.

Why would he have major doubts after that?
>>
My favorite thing was playing a paragon Shepard with violent party members. It felt like they could back me up if shit went bad.

That's bullshit. The "Dark Matter plotline" literally only gets mentioned once by Tali. All it was was a plot device to explain why Tali was on that planet, because they needed some reason to have her there.
Once the writers realised that, they decided not to take it any further since it was ridiculously stupid to begin with and not worth exploring any further.

Your problem is playing on Insanity. Difficulty settings in most games are garbage, ME2/3 did better because it was a proper cover shooter, ME1 is all over the place, especially early on and in the Mako.
>>
>>387387392
>>387384849

I wish she had normal hair and clothes in ME3. It would have been a good way to show her character development.
>>
>>387386663

That's only in Mass Effect 3 though, isn't it?
>>
>>387389915
She has some hair and slightly more clothes, wasn't that an attempt to do exactly that?
>>
>>387382272
me 2 was literally the best in the series
>>
>>387390158

She has an impossibly long ponytail (considering she was bald in ME2) and shaved sides. She wears more than just a nipple covering harness, but still shows off a ton of skin. I'm talking about having a more normal look.
>>
>>387390821
I know what you are talking about, but I'm saying her change in appearance clearly displayed character development. They didn't not use her appearance in that way, even if you'd prefer she look even more normal.
>>
>>387383369
I can never judge ME2 on it's own merrits because it was such a big letdown after ME1. I'd say disappointment plays a bigger part in why people don't like 2 than nostalgia.

how does one put 450 hours in a Mass effect game?

ME2 is my favorite mass effect but I put ~30 hours on it, maybe less.
>>
>>387385782

That's 1 hour into the game, and ignoring that a whole load of shit happens in the intro that sets the stage for the rest of the game.
>>
I have a hard question to ask.
As someone who ADORED the first two, should I play 3 if only to get some closure? When it came out that Bioware dropped the ball and pulled all kinds of awful shit I let go like the rest of /v/ and never even gave it a chance but is it worth going back to? Assuming I did a full replay through from the first.
>>
>>387394635
Yes. It's not the best in the series and it has a bad ending, but the actual game is decent and you'll enjoy all some of the character moments.
>>
>>387382272
>introduction is terrible
You mean the first Mass Effect?
>>
>>387394309

Some people play games more than once genius.
Why do you think mass effect games even have multiple class, dialogue, and relationship choices? You'd have to play every game in the trilogy at least 5 times in order to see everything the games have to offer, and I'm sure there are plenty of idiots that have done it.
