Everyone who owns a GPDWin should stop using this and Xpadder right fucking now. Go buy/pirate a copy of Controller Companion on Steam, it does this a million times better.

A good example is CC offering you a better mouse emulation mode than whatever GPD came with.

Emulation is basically NES/SNES/GEN/PS1/N64/DC and certain low-end GC and Wii games. You can use fancy front-ends like Hyperspin or Launchbox to make it more like a console. Good shit.

Was debating getting one of these, but picked up a surface 3 4gb for $300, seemed like a better purchase in the long run. Pretty much same specs, and less portability, but the screen is pretty decent.
I have a bluetooth gamepad, and it has usb for my 360/buffalo controller if I wanna use that.

To be more specific, i'd like to get one to be able to play stuff like pokemon fangames and the like made in RPG maker on a handheld device, since RPG Maker XP doesn't run on mobile devices, and what android emulators there are for it don't emulate the libaries the pokemon essentials toolkit uses.

If i'm playing a 256x189 pokemon fangame that I can upscale either to 512x381 or 1024x765 on this thing, will any of those resolutions on this thing's display effectively have the same pixel desnity/apparent resolution as an actual pokemon title on a GBA or DS?

The problem is that the screen is kinda small all things considered, so even at 960x544 you'll only notice a small blur. I recommend using Retroarch w/ shaders to make it look good.

This thing kinda doesn't commit fully one way or the other and the end result seems like it's shitty for everything. The traditional controls look like a fucking joke because they're so fucking squished to accommodate a keyboard.
And the keyboards function without a mouse is what exactly? Just browsing the net? Zero gaming application? I guess it adds text based games and typing games to your library. But if they were trying to emphasis the mobile PC aspect I feel like they should have taken ideas from the Steam Controller instead. Having 2 trackpads would cut down on the the need for the right stick, the entire keyboard, and then either the left stick or dpad. And you could have some extra buttons on the back where you are intended to grip the controller.

The fangame in question doesn't use interpolation as it upscales so that's not an issue, i'm more concerned about just how big any given "pixel" looks. Even if you upscale it from 256 to 1024 on a computer, there's no blur, since it's just taking a 1x1 pixel and making it a 4x4 square of the same color, but that makes that given "pixel" look bigger since it's no longer actually a single pixel, which can mean some of the sprites don't look as clean since they are meant to be seen at a certain size.

Like, the back view sprites in pic related, for reference. The actual native sprite size is the smaller view of them, here, rahter then the larger 2x view. Since it's designed to be seen at the smaller one, it looks "crisper" at that smaller resolution then the larger one.

So i'm wondering if this fangame, on the display of one of these, at any of those 3 resolutions, shows up at the right balance of size to not be too tiny on the screen but not blown up too much to lose that crispness.

Because I have one and I'm going to say this right now. If you don't own one yet, wait for gpd win 2. I have a gpd pocket as well and the gpd xd. The gpd xd and gpd win I end up using for MOSTLY emulation. They fill a similar niche and the gpd xd was cheaper.

I love my gpd win and I'd buy it again but going frmo xd to win to pocket.. their devices KEEP GETTING BETTER. The build quality of the pocket is AMAZING for some cheap ass chinese manufacturer. They did really well. The GPD win v2 with the aluminum topplate is better than the original gpd win.

That's why I don't talk about it, no point till they release a gpd win 2.
