If they fall apart the autistic backlash of the fandom would be so great that it would create the cringe equivalent of an Eye of Terror on the internet lasting ages. Then when the backlash eventually dies down, the cringe makers will dissipate into other fandoms and just destroy everything.

Because "Sonic Team" is just a brand name. It's not even the official name of the studio, right now it's "Consumer R&D Division #2." "Sonic Team" is just a brand name to designate that they're the primary team that makes Sonic games. You could slap that name onto any other Sega studio, or any of Sega's second-party studios, or even license it out to a third-party if they're making a Sonic game. The point being, it's just a name, assigned to a collection of people, who all take orders from executives in charge. If there's an issue with what "Sonic Team" is doing, the issue lies primarily with the executive in charge, not with some irrelevant brand name.

Come on now, it's not even that. How many Sonic games have Sonic Team made? They're made two good ones, I can tell you that. The vast majority of Sonic games, good or bad, are made by others.
