>>

him pulling his arm back is a 'telegraph' for the attack that is about to come out

enemies don't grab a baseball and autistically wind up their arm and rotate it before throwing the ball at you, it's more like instantaneously attacking without a tell
>>

heh.. south american....
>>
>>387370256
Now this is a buzzword.
>What does it mean
It's the latest adjective kiddies are using to try to shit on video games. I've seen it a lot with BOTW.
>>
>>387370127
Fun fact, it's actually used by people with functioning eyes and brains. That's why they can beat the easy boss easily and you are in fact the shitter. That's why you're losing and getting mad, see?

I'm fairly confident you're baiting but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. The section about godhand does a great job pointing out some telegraphing. If you can't react in about a third of a second then you just might not be cut out for action games.

People usually mean mechanical skill when they say that and 99% of rpgs don't require any. They require planning and other sorts of skills.

Yeah I dunno man. I was always the kid that read the whole manual before playing the game. And at some point the game started forcing me to play through the manual in game because everyone else can't be bothered.

I remember the demos for Nioh were fairly eye opening to me because the complaints and questions on here indicated to me that people did not try out all the buttons to see what they did, they did not read the tutorial hints, and they did not check their menu. In summation they were dumb.

clunky is when the controls or mechanics feel way too stiff.

wonky and janky are when the game has unreliable mechanics, or can be used to describe a buggy underpolished game.

It's shorthand for saying a game's mechanics or design choices have over time become incredibly dated or made outright obsolete compared to further advancements down the line.

A good case for this is JRPGs, just fucking play any 80's JRPG filled out the ass with grinding with generic Dragon Quest style battle systems then play something like Chrono Trigger or Radiant Historia.

"This game hasn't aged well" is a concise and simple way of saying "Standards have evolved and this game is well below these new standards, making it a way less enjoyable experience nowadays, when you have a larger catalog of video games to play with a ton of them being better than this game in what it's trying to do"

Hope this helps

My point is that you shouldn't fix what isn't broken. Euro high fantasy is timeless; if you don't like it then play something else because it's not going away any time soon, nor should it.
>>
>>387370127
The way a word is used doesn't nullify its actual purpose, it just means that autists use the word wrong. It's not even used wrong in that specific situation you brought up. If an enemy signals his moves ahead of time then its telegraphed. Hitboxes are a separate issue
>>

>>387375347
You can say a sequel that departs highly away from how its series is normally about, but still be a good game in its own right, therefore "it's a bad X game, but still a good game" still stands well. Also bad immersion can make a game feel dull like in horror games. If the game fails to make how the playable character would feel in the situations, it's not going to be very scary.
>>
>>387369907
"Weebshit" is probably the most obnoxious buzzword right now.

Because there's nothing wrong with traditional mimics but there's not way to tell in most games if a chest is a mimic. The punishment is usually a difficult fight but the reward is usually good, so it's fine.

Games don't have to be 100% fair. I don't know where that idea came from.

Standards have evolved. You can see by playing the vast majority of ps360 games. They feel generic and shallow and empty. They were pretty fun at the time but our standards have evolved to expect more. I'm not just talking about brown and bloom shooters either.

Sometimes it takes them a few entires in the franchise to really get the mechanics down. SaGa is one of my favourite series of games, but the shit that it's famous for wasn't even implemented until a few games in. They even remade the first romancing SaGa game to bring it up to speed. It seems even the devs think it aged poorly.

Comfy describes absolutely nothing specific about a game, it describes how it makes one feel, and it's vague enough to mean basically anything. It's as worthless as the word "fun" by itself in game discussion, and is only guaranteed to be accurate for the speaker.

That's why I said it depends on the punishment. The punishment in the case of a mimic is that instead of a reward you have to fight a (sometimes very strong) enemy for a reward. That's a small punishment.
>>

They're buzzwords because they're often used incorrectly
>>
>>387375736
A good mimic should be dinstinguishable through subtle tells. Rain World's vine creature twitches and flexes occasionally if you watch it, and obviously the dark souls mimics have the different chain. Mimics should be there to keep you on your toes and force you to take in your environment fully to survive. I wouldn't mind if a game had 7/8 mimic types like door mimics and bonfire mimics etc as long as careful observation reveals them.
>>

THats not a punishment though, if you played optimally you'd probably still fight the mimic because you wanted the good loot. People criticize trial and error gameplay because they feel like they suffered unnecessarily due to unforseeable bullshit

Words evolve over time. This had happened since the beginning of language. "meme" used to describe a phenomena where an element of a culture or system of behaviour is passed from one individual to another by imitation, and is now used interchangeably with "joke", "shitpost" and "image macro". People make a shitty image and call it a meme even though they haven't shared it once, let alone it going viral. Words change, accept it.

It's become so incestuous and aggressively boring that it is hard to stomach playing them unless there is a wildly different angle to it. >Arcade racing games like NFS Underground 2 are comfy because you can be relaxed while playing them whereas hardcore simulators can be really tense.
Anything can be comfy to /v/ even high octane action games can be """""comfy""""" meanwhile, some kiddy nintendo game can be pushovers to them

Because
Easy: 100 HP
Normal: 400 HP
Hard: 1600 HP
isn't real difficulty, just boring
>>
>>387385528
Depends. In some games you can kill a boss before mastering their moveset just by burning them down. They should have enough hp so that if you're not dealing with them correctly you'll die.

It's not even that, it was some guy making a comment that it was sad to see the guy who's in charge of a series like TES say that because TES is arguably one of the most surreal RPG settings out there regardless of region, but a bunch of normalfags shut him down with "but muh Skyrim, muh generic Oblivion forests, it's just like muh game of thrones that's why I like it"

I don't want to dig it up again, because I'm sure it'll get me mad again, but there were also people who wanted to remove the "Fantasy" elements from it to make it more "Realistic". And by "Fantasy", I'm not talking about the Daedra or the concept of Aetherius, I'm talking shit like removal of Giant Spiders and Magic. This is why it's hard for me to take TES fans seriously at times. You have the ones who genuinely love TES and know the world and the lore, but then you have these """people""" who """love""" the games.

rpgs don't require physical skill though, it's pretty much mathematics which could be considered a mental skill if you consider basic addition/subtraction/multiplication a mental skill. It gets worse when you have the element of randomness in there, then it's reduced to luck.

I've always hated this as well since I tend to like older games. Every game is unique and what you can do in those games and the general experience is all that matters.

SF3 > SF5

There are some instances in games where difficulty is added secretly, such as ai in a fighting game doing things that a regular player literally cannot do. (and I'm not talking about insane execution, just literally having a different response to things like hitstun or something inherent like that)

when a game deviates heavily from whatever made the series it's a part of great, but manages to be an interesting and enjoyable experience taken separately from said series, i'd say that phrase works just fine.

Repetitive, a blatant copy of what's come before it, obvious large sections of copy+pasting with nothing to justify it, missing out on small details

For example Runescape (made by brothers) and Team Fortress 2 (ten year development period with extensive testing) are games with a lot of soul put into them, lots of little details where you can see that the developers cared about making a good product and not just about making money

3k hours reporting in.
It's still pretty much the best MP game on the market. The artstyle has decayed and optimization took a hit, but nohats mod fixes those problems; and the game is way better balanced today than it was in, say, 2008.

I agree that's a lazy way to describe a game, but come on Anon this is 2017. More and more forms of media are using those websites as platform demographics to revolve their game around, continuing to deny it only means we'll get more SJW bullshit in vidya.

Why the fuck is this post getting upvoted by some retards?
Unironically go back if you think leaving an empty reply as a way of saying "this" "seconded" or "upboated" is okay. They're all the same thing you absolute cocksucking fucking faggots.
Also why the hell does 4chins think this post is spam yet allows you retarded redditors to spam empty replies
>>
The real buzzword is "artificial difficulty".
What it means
>the game breaks established rules or denies critical information to trick the player and arbitrarily increase difficulty
>also sometimes flat stat increases on higher difficulty levels rather than AI improvement
what /v/ thinks it means
>waaah more than 1 enemy, waaah I have to dodge shit on narrow footing

Also "metagaming" getting confused with "the meta".

>>387394791
I'd say because the perceived definition of "buzzword" in this context is a phrase that the OP pretends is a self-explanatory and succinct argument, but when asked "what did he mean by this?" it's revealed that OP is full of shit and the buzzword itself is meaningless.
Telegraphed attacks is an extremely frequent boss fight mechanic, so the idea of it being a buzzword seems pretty retarded because you could provide direct examples of the boss in question.

First Person Shooter
>Hobby-Grade
I would say "Indie Developed", as in someone who made the game as a hobby rather than professional career.
I don't think this would apply to Gearbox, so he possibly just meant low quality or shitty.

Cooperative, two or more players
>Multi-mode Competitive E-sports
Multiple objective/game formats, all balanced to the point you could pay a bunch of Koreans to live stream games
