But to me honest, I was mostly happy with most of what Xcom 2. Even the timed missions, which honestly lead to some of the most fun encounters I've had in the whole game.

Sadly I just can't sit down and play this thing for more than a couple of hours without getting bored and frustrated by it. I feels like it lacks atmosphere or a sense of presence. As a result, I don't get immersed, and stat to view it more like a mere mechanical exercise - at which point the small unavoiable frustrations of the core design start drawing on my tits.

I honestly can't pinpoint any single specific feature of Xcom 2 that I did not like. But I played it for like 15 hours and then just... stopped. I think something about the general pressure was annoying me.

I tried that, but I don't have the fucking patience for those. I have a really annoying bad habit of getting really angry when I lose a massive portion of my progression without an option to revert back, it just makes me realize how much time I just pointlessly lost, and makes me not want to play the game ever again.

I did use the save scumming actually quite sparringly when playing on non-iron mode, and even that was quite enough for me.

I don't think I'm completely awful at this game, but I'm not amazing either, and I really don't feel like I have the confidence to play on iron man.

I can deal when a game like The Void or Pathologic screw over big time, because those games got me already personally invested.
Xcom feels incredibly impersonal to me. So playing 25+ hours of it and then learning that I better start all over again is not something I can deal with.

Beside new costumization options, now you can make posters of your crew and those posters are plastered around the ship. You get to make posters when someone die too. Also bonded characters do stuff together and have special win animations.

What a lousy crutch the exhaustion system is. Instead of having dozens of soldiers like in the old games you only have a hand full and now they need to be exhausted instead of locked to missions and travel. First they dumb the game down to a point it's boring and then they implement dirty hacks to increase complexity again.

I'm in the same boat. I've completed two Long War playthroughs (one failed in the first year) and beaten xcom 2 twice before trying out a couple overhaul mods.

No matter what I try, I can't squeeze out nearly as much fun from xcom 2 as I could from the EW: Long War mod. It really breaks my heart, and I can't put my finger on why I don't love xcom 2 like I did Long War.

That's not what I've seen on streams from it. Still stutters during certain actions and the caps-lock-to-load-instant trick is still required. Texture pop-in like typical from UE also still present. And the action camera is even more awful and probably severely bugged right now.
