So does anyone know of any games that use the technique of rendering 2d sprites onto a 3d enviroment. I just got done with pic related and I just absolutely fell in love with visual style and was wondering if there where any other free-roaming/openworld (or other types) games that use 2d or anime-esque sprites.

This game meets your requirements but good luck finding an emulator that will actually play it. Unless you have a japanese saturn laying around.

Not that I can find, but its a pretty stratightforward shmup. Lots of flashing indicators that even an autist can figure out what the mission is.

I quite like it too
Really hate how quickly developers took the jump into using 3D models for everything, when the first generation(s?) of 3d models looked objectively worse than what could have been achieved with sprites and a bit of elbow grease
The only real advantage is dynamic lighting, and that still sucked ass until at the very, very least this millennium.

There is a project currently in the works to port this game to the unity engine and its looking fucking fantastic, plus having it on an open source engine means that this game will finally get the mod treatment it deserves.
