Bronze isn't low-tier. It's highest DPS if you can get any sort of armor penetration from alternate sources, like spells or abilities.

30 Years War would be the perfect Total War setting, sadly it's too patrician a setting for the plebs.

There are plenty of bronze age vidya though. Not common, certainly, but not basically unheard of, either. There's plenty of ancient greece and egyptian themed titles.

A better example would have been prec-columbian mesoamerica or the andes, which were actually just starting their own bronze age when the spanish showed up (though were far ahead of that in terms of civil law, bureaucratic complexity, urban design, medicine and hygine, and so on, at which they were basically on par with 16th cenutary europe)
