The game is great regardless of whether you're alone or with a friend, but obviously having a friend makes it much more fun as it cuts construction time and effort in half, and makes it less lonely.

As for mods, I know there's plenty of great ones, you just need to watch out for ones that fuck the balance. As for names of mods, I can't help you there.

I played it like 300ish hours alone most of the time.

Stuff is basically extremely easy until you get into hard mode which unlocks a lot of things.

You don't get the real experience until you get into hardmode.

While Minecraft has a huge "scale" with it's constantly expanding world as you explore, Terraria feels more "complete" if you compare both without mods. if it's normal you'll be fine with yoyos, boomerangs and such

on expert mode doing a full 100% melee playthrough is ass. it's doable until the wall of flesh. you can't beat him with any of the prehardmode melee weapons, because the hungrys regenerate too fast. night's edge? hungry's are in the way. hell yoyo? they're in the way and you don't have enough range. boomerang? shitters in the way.

it can't be done, and if you say it can i need some video footage to back it up because i wasn't able to do it

Mobility. If you don't have some running boots and some good jumping items to leap over him it's going to be rough. You can plant Sunflowers and drink swiftness potions as well. A decent bow with Fire or Frost Fire arrows should cover your damage easy enough. If you are on a corrupt world the vile thorn seems to work OK when he is going nuts on you because of how it lingers around.

Anon, what no one's told you yet that works beautifully is to build a long minecart track. You can even get track for free if you stumble across abandoned rails, which are everywhere and they're nice and long. I'd say make one that spans at least a quarter of the world.

Personally I used bee grenades to kill the guy, they work wonders.
