I just lost my first and best captain who sailed in a merchant ship. I should've never have bought it but I wanted the cargo space for long voyages. I still ended up dying from fuel loss. I think I've lost all desire to play this game.

>>387303476
I remember how I lost my first captain. We've been outta fuel and food with no way to reaching safe harbor. So I decided to use wind's blessing. It teleported the ship...to terrifying island on south east part of the map. Quite literally end of the world. There I made some more sacrifices and was teleported to north east, city of dragons or smth. I managed to buy food and fuel and sailed to London. What eventually killed on the way back me was insanity. See, that was the only parameter I didn't bother to decrease.
Shit, I need to replay it.

After losing about three captains, and having to restart so much progress, I downloaded a trainer

I use it to purchase my corvette back, and enough resources to get going, and then Im back to normal.

Its not enough to replace all the stories you have to redo, but it makes things a LOT less stressful. I mainly play the game for the environment and story, and Im not trying to re-read the same story 5-6 times over.

The permadeath mechanic doesn't work well for book-likes where you have so much identical story stuff to do every new captain. That plus very, very slow speed makes this game bad.

Sunless Sea, just like Fallen London, is a game with a fantastic set of stories and really well written world, hampered with really tedious gameplay and crummy design choices. Here's hoping Sunless Skies will finally get things right.

Whenever I'm starting from scratch I first upgrade to a better deck weapon (a Hellthrasher if I can afford it, a Denunciation if not), then save up to upgrade to the Corvette, and only then pick up a better engine and forward weapon. It's pretty complicated. The lore of the universe of Fallen London is big and quite interesting to loser lore nerds like me

It involves stars being literal gods, eldritch monsters, bending reality backwards and fucking it like a bitch, and a sad one-sided romance, between a giant space crab and the Sun, if I remember it right.

It's best if you experience it yourself. Or you can get it spoiled for you. Your fucking choice mate

Mad spoilers. As >>387310269 said, the lore of the Sunless Sea/Fallen London universe is really interesting and great if you're into lore, so it's probably best for you to find out for yourself. We can explain if you'd like clarification on something, though.
Short answer? Neath-dwellers are illegal.

Not as far as I know, I don't think being souless does much.

You know, I never thought of that. It's been so long since I haven't had a townhouse to call my own. I maintain that hunting would be a more efficient way of making money, though, since it involves less back and forth zailing and doesn't need as much preparation work - you just need to be able to reliable handle a Lorn-fluke, so a corvette or well-armed cutter.

Still, everyone should rise and give themselves to the Sun once in their lives.

>>387311654
There's only one type of will, the iron-clad kind. The advantage it gives you over a regular Legacy (where you make your selection of what to give your next Captain at the end of the game) is that it allows you to pass down your lodgings and any Heirlooms you've made, in addition to the Legacy/ies you otherwise get. If you can be bothered you can use heirlooms to give your next captain some extra money. I never can and use it just for the lodgings, myself.
>>
>>387312076
It's not really that difficult. The grind for the Dread Surmise is a bit tedious without Zubmariner but the only hard part is willingly sacrificing almost everything you could possibly pass to your next Captain

It's a shame, but I can understand why Failbetter wouldn't go for it - they probably think it'd be hugely popular and they'd lose out on money for Fate purchases and subscriptions.
I'd appreciate an option that matched up the number of cards you can hold more closely with the amount of actions you get, though. I usually end up with a bunch of extra actions at the end of the day.

>>
>>387312419
>>387312438
The fact they cancelled that storyline is the reason I unsubbed from Fallen London. I wanted to grind that story out and quit playing after my husk of a character discovered the world's darkest secrets and I can't do that anymore.

>>
>>387312593

>>
>>387312450

are they even still making money from fallen london, honestly ? I doubt new blood is getting into the game, making it a real game would probably suck in a lot of new players. I don't think the economical arguement makes sense.

its much more likely that they don't have any spare dev teams lying around and that they'd rather work on something new that is more likely to get attention than a remake of something old, that the old fans probably wouldn't care much for.
>>
>>387312526

I'm not sure they would be making a lot, but presumably they're bringing in enough money through subscriptions and Fate/exceptional story purchases (I've got a subscription, personally). They might find they have enough new players through the publicity of Sunless Sea and now Skies to justify it.

>its much more likely that they don't have any spare dev teams lying around and that they'd rather work on something new that is more likely to get attention than a remake of something old, that the old fans probably wouldn't care much for.
I think it's a combination of this and how difficult it would be, both to justify to long-time players who've already bought into the current system and moneywise. I think the split between the current FL writers and working on Sunless Sea, now Sunless Skies, suits them fine with Mr Eaten finished. As far as Fallen London itself is concerned they seem to be concentrating on going through and making mechanical changes at the minute - like shifting the faction system from Connected to Favours/Renown.
>>
>>387313806
Its a roguelite. Dying means you have to start over unless you play with manual saves. But you don't lose everything. You get to pass on items and other stuff you acquired.

>>387314116
I know they were going for more clarity with where you stood with the factions/gains and losses, but it's just not implemented well at all.
Especially since as far as I know you can't drop Renown once it's raised, so if you wanted one of the faction gifts or needed it for a specific purpose but wanted to lose your affiliation afterwards you're fucked.

Yes

I dont see why it would die of sorrow, considering it gets handed so many tragic love stories, if the Sun is dead, the bazaar still is a courier, it still has other judgements to serve and even when they would be gone, its a free agent, it has no reason to kill itself or die of sorrow as it holds no allegiance to any Judgements, it merely wanted to get enough tragic love stories that the Sun wouldnt kill itself over rejection.
>>
>>387315579
how was it?
>>
>>387314681
Early on you can get a good start by making money from quests, especially the First Curator's - some of the items are very easy to find, and they award you Captivating Treasures. You can also make good money by fulfilling the Merchant Venturer's more straightforward requests, but it's chancier as he might request something that's very difficult to find or must be bought, cutting out your profit. An anon mentioned earlier in the thread that if you leave your lodgings at their most basic quality you can sleep away Yearning, Burning very cheaply; so you can use that to continue smuggling sunlight.

I find the easiest way of making money long-term is hunting Lorn-flukes (and Dawn-flukes if you have Zubmariner). Once you're upgraded enough to reliably handle one (a Cutter or Corvette with decent engines should do it) they pose little threat to a careful Captain as long as you manage your terror, and their cores are delicious. They spawn in the southeastern end of the map, so you can sacrifice fuel+supplies for great terror reduction at Kingeater's Castle and as long as you have at least one Zee-story when you're done you can take the shortcut back to London or Irem.

It's not intended to be canon, right? Or at least not more canon than anything else; I thought Skies was intended to be a vision of a possible future. Like the Destinies.

The Bazaar loves the Sun. And it's committed enough crimes that it's slated for execution. The Sun dying would be the end of the Bazaar either way.

It's pretty good. It's more story orientated than the other ambitions, there's several different choices you can make and there's technically three endings to it, although the choice is only given at the very last storylet.

Can you actually reach immortality or are you cucked by someone else?

>>387317040
Yes but the game ends there whatever choice you make

Wait what, I though the bazaar was a mensager and was delivering a mensage of "I dont love you back" from other judgements, hence him coming to earth to collect tragic love stories so when it did come to deliver the "no I dont love you back" letter, the sun wouldn't do a hero.

Where did you learn the bazaar loved the sun anon?

You probably bought a better light, and engine. Which uses more fuel.

It was pretty stupid how you could go from a legend with a particular faction to barely known, just because some chucklefucks grinded like 600+ levels of connected and utterly screwed the conversion rate.

Sunless sea has exactly the same problem as a house of many doors : all these exotic locations, and then once you arrive there, you actually can't do shit most of the time cause you don't have the one or two quests that actually use this location for anything other than checking the news.

Only very few places actually allow you to do cool stuff the first time you visit.

They fixed that in zubmariner, which was cool, but none of the new locations felt very connected to the central themes of the lore and world so it felt a bit too removed from the rest of the game. Still enjoyable.

I would say end-game Darkest Dungeon levels of grinding

A shame she didn't accept my proposal. You can give your soul to other people instead of her?

You can give your soul to the Empire of Hands

Monkeys pay for it. Or they can steal it.

What do you get out of that? With the Deviless you at least get a cute description of her eyeing it like a cat.

I actually reloaded a save after I realized that letting the Voracious Diplomat join me wouldn't be a good idea, not that it matters in game, but no way I'm letting them win
