This site has nothing to offer anybody. There is no quality content here you cannot get more quickly and efficiently elsewhere. This is an addiction which reduces your productivity, attention span, and free time. You are becoming more bitter, narrow minded, haughty, and old. Leave now and block this site. There is nothing here but slow, lonely suicide.

People do not have arguments here. Posters do not engage one another on key points, they nitpick with greentext and mock each other. Nobody is interested in the truth; people are battling for fleeting moments of superiority. Active commenters are loud jackasses who tumble into one internet fight after another, anxiously keeping ten tabs open to ensure they keep the last word in all of them. An insightful post is one in ten thousand, and no matter how hard you filter this place you are still searching for diamonds in a garbage dump.

HDDs are PROVEN to retain porn videos for a much longer time than SSDs. The average SSD can only hold a charge of porn related memory for a maximum of 120 cycles. This is insufficient.

Not to mention games these days require hundreds of GIGABYTES of space for uncompressed Portuguese audio.

The day I realized none of this matters was probably the happiest day of my life. I don't get why people freak out or get so down when realizing it. For me it was both freeing and helped weirdly connect me to the world. I'm no more important than an ant or a bird and just like them I'll live, die and be forgotten. It's fine. There is no meaning and all I can do is simply experience this odd existence.

Even after realizing it I still like being nice and making the ride easier if better for the people still invested.
>>
>>387275257
It's not about errors during write, it's about the fact that every single write contributes to the ultimate death of your SSD.

For most SSDs it's like 60GB/day for 3 years or something, but if you got a cheap one you'd be lucky to get anything near that.

>>387272585

Unlike HDDs which will inevitably fail due to mechanical error, but other than that are immortal, SSDs have a definitively finite lifespan.

They can only have a certain amount of data written to them over a period of time before they die right then and there.

Why won't these fucking SSD go down in price? You'd think technology prices go down as time passes, but this is bullshit. SSD are getting more expensive

I use 2.5" HDDs in a SAN. It's not that bad because the fans are in another room and I'm connected via fiberchannel.

>Still cheap as fuck for mass storage
>Implying I need my non-game shit on SSD
>>
>>387277843
No. I own two 250 GB evo 850s, and one 500 GB across laptop and desktop. /g/ keeps telling me it will just fail to turn on next week, but they keep being wrong and I keep enjoying everything being really responsive.
>>
>>387272585
Too expensive

Games are too big nowadays so an already expensive SSD can't store a lot of them

99% of current gen games load fast enough on HDD.

I already have a SSD.

I have both. HDDs are better for long term high volume storage SDDs are better for boot drives and games.

Can't I just buy Optane with my hdd?

do you stupid fucks really can't wait that one minute per day/week/however often you reboot?
because that's the only thing having your OS on a ssd changes

broke
also too lazy to reinstall windows and everything

That second paragraph is pure unadulterated fucking bullshit. I argue with real points, deductions, and values all the time and so do the anons I argue with. If anything I'm addicted to the arguments, addicted to the mental stimulation of arguing, addicted into growing my mind to think the way that I normally wouldn't have if it weren't for reading other people's arguments and in turn having a much greater comprehensive grasp on the subjects which I frequently argue about. 4chan is the only website on the internet worth visiting, period. All social media is cancer. All Internet news is cancer. All moderated user forums are cancer. All Internet media is cancer. 4chan has cancer but isn't inherently cancer; it's the only place to defend
>>

cheaper than ssd for now.

I meant any non anonymous forum. Thread limit + anonymity is so superior to every single other discussion based website organization it's not even a competition

uh nah breh having your main drive be an SSD boosts page file speed significantly
>>
I can't even afford to keep gas in my car
>>
>>387281183

I've found it helps a lot when running antivirus scans, searching for files and just general responsiveness. Everything I run off my SSD runs better. There's really no reason not to use an SSD for a boot drive. If you're forced to choose between one or the other I probably wouldn't get an SSD just to have a faster boot drive, especially if storage is a concern, but in my situation I get good use out of it.
>>
I use both. Newer games I store on my SSD (I have one for my OS and one for games), and games I do not play as much or would not benefit from a SSD I store on my larger HDD. Works out well.
>>
I'm poor. I just upgraded from 5200 RPM to 7200 RPM at least.
>>
It's easier to tell when they're failing so I have more time to backup the data if I have not already.

>>387281183
those minutes add up
buy an ssd already grandpa

>thinking smashing a HDD is secure

You know unless the whole thing is literally dust or melted, they can still recover data off platters.
>>
>>387282367
Recovering in that state is extremely cost prohibitive though.
>>
>>387276590
>SSDs are harder to securely erase.

How hard is it to smash something up with a hammer or put it in a microwave?
>>
Because I have a 2TB HDD in my PS4 and the equivalent would be a shit more expensive than the PS4 itself.

I will never get fags like you. Why the fuck does everything need a purpose? Why does your life have to mean something great or amazing?
Can you not just do shit and be alive?
>>
>>387283003
I think the performance boost is very marginal at best for the most part. You're better off just getting faster HDD for the price.

You should honestly just kill yourself.

On topic, I do own a cheapo 128GB SSD. The difference is noticeable, but I still keep a 1TB HDD for regular storage.

i argue with people i agree with because it's funny

I think that goes for basically any cartridge game.
>>
>>387272585
I bought a 2TB HDD in 2015 and I still have my 1TB HDD I bought in 2011. But I won't buy another HDD at this point, they are obsolete.

I have both, but with the size of modern games I can only fit a handful on the SSD.
