Not sure what Nuka World adds, I lost interest shortly after the build-a-bot dlc

It was mostly autistic headcanon, but

Sandbox. It's fun to explore, start settlements, create trade routes. The combat is passable, but that's fine, leagues above TES. Also Survival difficulty makes it a genuinely challenging and unforgiving game.

Nuka World allows you to actually set up settlements as raiders: take hostages, conduct raids, extort settlements, etc. I didn't do much of the content since by the time you beat Nuka World you're high leveled, but from low level, those features would be fantastic.

Survival just makes the game tedious, not hard. Also it forces you to be as stealthy as possible and attack from as long a range as possible, so everyone plays the same.

Don't forget about the desire to savescum is practically non-existent in this difficulty setting. Although that APC mod was pretty good for this since it gives you a cozy little place to settle down for the night, and camping mods to which are a must.Feel bad for anyone that bought this on the PS4 though, they always get the short end of the stick when it comes to the Fallout games.

Yes, I'm doing that on my current playthrough. I'm using the "empty" settlements to travel to using an immersive fast travel mod (requires fuel to be able to travel).
My companion is at purely to farm stuff to make vegetable starch (adhesive) until I unlock/finish the mechanist DLC where they will be replaced with robots.
People will only show up if you build a recruitment beacon, if you get a settlement with generic settlers in them that you want gone then just kill them.

My problem with the map in Fallout 4 isn't even its size, more so that it's just too cluttered. In fallout 3 or NV you could find a new location by walking probably 5 minutes but in 4 there are so many locations packed in together that you can't walk 5 seconds without discovering a new one. I wish Bethesda added just empty space in between areas to make it feel less overwhelming.

Don't know for sure because i pirated it. I can't remember anything about the story after the nuke falling intro. I got to the point where you can set up your first town, messed around with that some and quit playing. The townbuilding felt like I had downloaded a shitty mod.
