Honestly OneShot has a fair chunk of missed potential. After playing Undertale I read through Homestuck in like 2 weeks after staying away from it like the plague for several years, it was pretty damn good. Terezi best character.

It also kickstarted my interest in music, I checked out /mu/ and made a last.fm account and I'm still checking out recommendations frequently. I'm really into sample-based music now.

He just happened to hit a sweetspot that could reach a large number of people, if anything, though, there's very little journalistic acclaim because it's not like he's paying people to review his small $10 indie game 10/10, the only angle journalists care about is the potential to tackle progressive subjects with the interesting morality-fighting system that the game has. However, when this aspect is brought up, the same journalists that would care a little too much about it will ignore everything else about the game that makes it fun and entertaining. Please do not pay attention to game journalists or journalists of any kind, take the game for what it is and don't expect any sort of revolutionary masterpiece and you might be able to enjoy it.

It's weird how many people think Live-A-Live's Megalomania was the main influence just because of the name and some similar chord progression.

I expect an all-around prettier and more complete RPG from them, at the very least. From the screenshots, it does look very good, and given what they are going for, it'd have to be a fuller RPG than UT by default. This is all assuming they actually finish and release the damn thing, of course.
Really, despite the shared inspirations, UT and whatever Mother 4 is getting renamed to probably aren't going to be all that similar anyhow.
UT is really more VN than RPG, and is very short, which works to its advantage, since it means the novel, if ultimately shallow, combat has less time to wear out its welcome and the simple characters can be endearing without getting too annoying or one-note by the end, though that is still up for debate.
The game formerly known as Mother 4 was outright meant to be a successor to the Mother series, which would mean it is far, far, far closer to a normal RPG, and will likely be a far longer game that people are going to have to approach differently, and a lot more work is going to have to be put into the characters and world to keep them likable/interesting for the whole run.
I do seriously doubt M4 will be able to garner as monumental a fanbase as UT, or even as much critical praise, simply because UT hit the sweet spot of brevity and general easy of access that M4 just won't be able to hit by its nature as a 'literally Mother but with the serials filed of' game

I think his achievement list, if those are all that there are, is pretty shitty to reflect his distaste of trophies. Get halfway through the game and donate 350g to the dog shrine and that's all the trophies there are.

If Toby has two braincells in his head he'll never make another game in his life.

The reality of the situation is that if he ever DOES make another one every motherfucker alive will be expecting God and all the angels to come down and hand the new game to us.

Undertale was a weird little sleeper-hit (and it hi like a fucking nuke) but if he ever tries anything else it will always have to stand in the shadow of Undertale.

It's a shame because if the game had turned out mediocre, he could make more stuff and try new things and maybe improve. Now he's essentially already peaked and will probably never make a video game again.

Still, it's better to be a one-hit-wonder than a ten-games-and-one-good-one-asshole.
