Is this series worth playing? I just downloaded the SNES versions of 1 - 3 on my 3ds, so I wanted to know how good these games are.
If you've played any JRPG ever in your entire life you're better off just skipping DQ1 and 2. They're super basic. Horribly so.

If you like JRPGs, DQ3 is the archetypical JRPG and is really, really good even to this day. There are a few problems with the remake(FUCKING BARAMOS) but they're better than the original in most ways.

What console are the remakes on?
>>387163235
SNES, GBC, mobile.
>>387163850
How's the mobile versions?
>>387162945
Are 1 and 2 really that simple? Are they worth playing at all?

>Is this series worth playing?
Yes.
>I just downloaded the SNES versions of 1 - 3 on my 3ds, so I wanted to know how good these games are.
Play them and find out.

Avoid them at all costs.

1 is really basic and could be hard to get through for most people. Not because it's difficult, but because it is extremely dated.
2 is ok early on but kind of loses itself in the middle. That and the final areas suck dick.

So I should just skip to 3? Does the dialogue for 1 and 2 make it worth it at all?
>>387166047
Don't listen to him. Just play them all. In order.
>>387166047
No. Feel free to try them out for a little bit but feel free to drop them when they don't hold your interest. Don't feel pressured to complete them just for the epic epeen points. They're bad.
>>387167245
That "No" is about the dialogue. The dialogue is not worthwhile. You can skip.
>>387166117
>play them all
Even 10? Apparently it's an mmo, every mmo I've played I didn't care for.
1 is a short and simple game and you should play it. Ignore 2 and go straight to 3.
>>387164993
they're simple but they're historical curiosities and you should play them if you're a fan of jrpgs and want to see how the genre began. They're not awful and they're charming in their own way. The first two aren't terribly long either.
One thing is that at some point in 2 balance goes out the window and you need to grind for an hour to progress

Well you can skip X because it'll never get localized.
>>387167557
10 in the West is never ever. Apparently it's one of the better mmos and it feels like a proper DQ game, so it's a shame really

I started at DQIV and I like the game well enough so far like 20hrs in. I'd probably be having a way easier time if I'd known to turn all my Torneko shop gold into abacuses before ending his chapter though. gold takes forever to accumulate and you constantly feel underequipped because of how prohibitively expensive shit is.
>>387168738
also, using money laundered through torneko is the only way to get enough casino tokens for the higher prizes if you've missed enemies in the earlier chapters
DQ is fun but it is definitely a series you need to understand well before playing, depending on your tastes.

It's fucking stupid that they put a system in place for you to farm as much gold as you want, and they don't give you a dime of it when he joins your party. I almost considered going back like 8hrs just to buy like 300 abacuses. I hope DQV makes shit a little more affordable, $15k for one sword is bullllshit

if you don't mind my shilling, i made a video about this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVyBooE6HYY&t=9s
also the 3DS versions are actual just ugly phone ports. i would recommend pirating the actual SNES versions if you want. they are all definitely worth a play; some more than others. most of what was said in this thread is good advice.
>>387162804
If you use some sort of cheat code to bypass the grinding, they're good games.
>>387165602
You. You haven't played the games. I can tell.
