Does anyone actually care about backwards compatability? I don't think I ever played a Wii game on my Wii U, a Gamecube game on my Wii, or a DS game on my 3DS

Well I'm still playing windows xp games but it keeps getting harder. Losing even more backwards compability to developer incompetency that leads to games only working on ancient operating systems does piss me off. So I care.

Now, consoles, I only care if I can't emulate the old games anyways.

Playing all my PS1 games on my PS2 when I was in middle school was perfect, and now playing PS2 games on my PS3. I understand why Sony dropped BC, but damn was it convenient.

I sure do. Couldn't live without all the old games I can come back to decades later. If PC ever loses the ability to play old games I'd ditch the platform and find another hobby.

I would have bought a PS4 if it played PS3 games or the Switch if it played Wii U games since I skipped those previous consoles.

Oh well.

I use my WiiU as a local multiplayer powerhouse since it has WiiU games, native Wii support, and native Gamecube support +VC. I also just enjoy some games on the game pad in bed
I've used it CONSTANTLY on my 3DS. Pokemon Platinum and Heart Gold are some of my most played games. Bunch of VC games there too.
On my Vita I have a bunch of PSP and PSOne games.
I emulate it unless it's for multiplayer with friends or portability (Or if I can't get the game on PC)
>>
>>387149968
I actually played a most of my gamecube games on wii
>>
>>387149968
Yeah, but thats why I'm on PC. the games I bought last gen and the one before it are sill in my steam library. That people want to twice or more buy the games they already own and paid is just stupid to me
>>
I never owned a Wii but there were some old games that I always kinda wanted to play, so the backwards compatibility was part of the reason why I even got a Wii U

Felt fucking nice to get my hands on Metroid Prime Trilogy and play through these games for the first time like one really long game

If it wasn't for backwards compatibility, I would probably fucking hate the Wii U

backwards compatibility is great for 2 features
-the old game still has netplay that works on the new system, bringing in new players
-the old game runs better on the new system

for gamecube on wii you can force progressive scan and widescreen. its really neat.
and 360 games on xbone run better, and still can play online.

You gotta hack it to get it but the vWii is just a Wii. It can recognize and run gamecube games. The WiiU just doesn't have a disc drive that can, so you just load them by SD or USB I think, I dont know I've been too lazy to do it myself yet but I'm gonna soon.

But both of those consoles have ports of games from the previous ones
>>
>>387149968
I do. I always replay old games on a BC console. It helps me keeping up with my backlog while gaining space in my house.
Plus trading in my old console allows me to buy the new one that has BC without selling all the games of the old one.

For me, BC will always be a welcome plus.
>>
>>387149968
It's good for added functionality for new consoles when they still don't have big libraries, but the backwards compatibility becomes less useful over time. That being said, it's nice not having to dust off an old console and plugging it in to play some older games. For example, it's nice being able to play Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 on Wii U

And I'm mostly interested in unique, niche games. For example Tokyo Jungle seems interesting.
>>
>>387149968
I like it for my home consoles because it means less clutter for me.
Handhelds I don't really care. I mean its convenient but I generally kinda like having lots of handhelds laying around.
>>
>>387150029
Or those who didn't buy the previous console.
>>
>>387149968
backwards compatibility is great when you skipped the older console. I only played Gamecube games on my Wii.
It's also great to have on a handheld. I mostly play DS games on my 3DS.

>>
>>387149968
>Does anyone actually care about backwards compatability?

No not really. It's only used as consolewar fuel in stupid arguments.
>>
>>387149968
If you skipped a console you don't need to spend money on what is essentially outdated hardware if the newest one has backward compatibility.
Even if you bought some older platform they don't last forever either and will eventually break one way or another, so it'd be preferable that the newest one ran all the older games as well.
Backwards compatibility is also useful for pure convenience's sake since you can have all your games on one platform, less clutter.

There's also the case of performance and graphics since newer platforms are usually more poweful, but I think it's pretty much PC-only thing, unless there's backwards compatible (non-remake) games on new consoles that actually run and look better than the originals?
>>
>>387152963
But you can't emulate the Switch.
>>
>>387149968
DS on 3ds.
>>
>>387149968
>>387150029
There are people who skip consoles. Not everyone who bought a PS4 had a PS3. Shocking, I know.
>>
>>387149968
id like it to be a more common thing, if only to spare me the effort of digging out old consoles when i want to play old games.
>>
>>387152072
I don't want to buy a dongle so I can connect a Wiimote + Nunchuk to my PC. Not to mention, putting a sensor bar on my desk just for one game would be a bit of a hassle
