What the FUCK happened? Did I miss something?
literally who cares. RAM is dirt fucking cheap. Fire 32GB in and forget about it.

There is no general consensus that 8 GB Ram is enough.
16 GB isn't minimum, but you definetly need more than 8. Like 12.

You sure you havent been in a coma for 7 years?
I built my new rig in December with 16GB and already thinking about going for 32. But I do 3D modeling and graphical work along with games.

Do you really play games with your browser running, you fucking retard?
12 is fine
8 is pushing it but will be ok for most games, depending on how many background tasks you have running
16 is more than enough and will last a good while
>What the FUCK happened? Did I miss something?
happened over the course of the last half decade.
wake the fuck up

I prefer not having such a shit system that I have to close down everything to play a game. I also enjoy listening to stuff like music or podcasts, while playing a chill game.
Might just be me though.

I cant fathom how much my os is using... for what?

PUBG launched and people on 8GB have trouble with the entire 64 sq km map loading properly.

I find this hard to believe. People have agreed that 8gb is for budget builds these days. 12 or 16gb is what you should be aiming for if you want a comfortable experience.

Not alt-tabbing in borderless windowed mode and shitposting on /v/ while waiting to respawn

Not him, but I do because my rig can handle multi-tasking. I built my computer and have 3 monitors for this very reason.

with ps3 and 360, which both had 512MB of ram, 4GB was minimum and 8 recommended (at the end of the gen), currently 8GB is minimum and 16 recommended, though it's just to avoid the occasional stutter since 8 is enough

32gb of ram, a gtx 1080 and an i7 is the bare minimum if you want to play any modern game
