Every single updates seems to break my Windows. After three times getting fucked over, I decided to never updating.

It's also has these weird ass bugs where XP and 7 just works. My current 10 can't even show hidden files.

>Isn't there an option to turn it off?
No.
If you use W10, MS dictates what's going on with your PC.

Besides that shit, the system also is capable of AUTOMATICALLY uninstalling any "incompatible" or "illegal" software and hardware. I've seen numerous statements from different users who've magically had their emulator folders disappear.

I'm sticking with my W7 Ultimate x64 as long as physically possible, and by that I don't mean I just uninstall it when MS "stops" their "support" for it; Windows XP was still fucking fine up until early 2010s, no matter how much the stealth-shills tried to spread panic and lies about it.
I've kept all my updates disabled ever since the first hints of their Telemetry bullshit surfaced, and I plan to keep doing so.

By some 2020, I will probably start dual-booting some Linux distro. The Linux support has gotten better and better each year, and the increasing interest and support towards the Vulkan technology has made it even easier to play major release titles (like nuDOOM) out of the box on Linux systems.

If anything, I would bet that DX12 ends up being a tiny meme that only "MS Store exclusives" will require, while every other dev would focus more and more to Vulkan, thanks to its way wider compatibility.

>>387148809
That's not an excuse to forgive such bullshit practices. The W10 is also notorious for sapping people's data-capped internet connections dry, all on its own.

And yes, I know about the NOW available setting that marks the connection as capped and thus LIMITS the background services. That's not a solution either.

Yes, you did. How about you read the EULA and the fine print next time.

Windows 10 is literally a SERVICE now. Not an offline program you just install and run. You have just sold your soul and PC to the Microsoft, and they are free to do what they want, and even change the rules if they so desire along the years.

You just don't get it.
Yes, the user interface and interaction with the system has barely changed. However, the product itself is now a continuous "service" of which's rules you have accepted and signed up for. Especially if you typed in your hotmail address and shit during creation of the user account, you are literally part of the botnet, and under constant surveillance.

Real talk
People bashing windows 10 are stupid users who never cared about their security before and don't know to configure shit so they blame it on the os when shit goes wrong.
Facts they probably don't know are
-You can delay updates up to a month, "forced" updates happen when you don't turn off your system for at least a week if you didn't choosed the month delay.
-Basic telemetry is crash reports of applications
-You have more privacy option to disable on latest creators update
-If you're not using a a msft account they don't collect data on you, read the eula, the data they say they collect if on their "services", aka, using cortana, store, windows apps, etc
-Windows 10 uses less ram and disk space than 7, boot faster too.

>>387151779
I've talked to lots of people who've literally lost HALF of their entire Steam library.

>>387151850
>Any /g/fags who can tell me what makes Windows 7 less of a botnet than 10?
W7 is an offline software package first and foremost. You don't have quite the same degree of freedom as on Linux systems, but especially on Pro and Ultimate editions you can adjust all the important aspects to your liking, and block any and all traffic if you so desire.
W10 is like a Netflix subscription, that you utilize via this GUI that is Windows 10. If Microsoft decides to overhaul the entire system and their rules, there is nothing you can do.

The only reason MS has been so aggressively pushing W10 on people is the fact that 7 was so easily crackable, and thus acquirable for free. They also had to figure out new ways to make money now that free alternatives are becoming more popular, which is why they are "selling" their CUSTOMERS to the other corporations.
>>
>>387152238
Does that make this thread a Linux shill thread or OS X etc..?
>>
>>387151242
7 is the sweetspot as it still has the classic layout most of us who used XP are familiar with plus it can still play most modern games but it only supports up to a modified version of DX11.1. Be wary that it's going to be losing extended support soon (2020) and some online programs will probably do the same.

8.1 supports newer versions of DX11 and probably offers a marginally better gaming experience as it uses less resources than 7 but the trade off is the tablet layout so it's going to take a while to get used to. Also beware that Microsoft may attempt to force you to upgrade to 10.

It's mostly optional. The only time I see it is on startup and when changing settings that aren't in control panel. The lack of a start menu is my main complaint, but right clicking the windows icon opens a menu with most of what I needed from the start menu. 7 and 10 are better than 8 though.

Literally every critique people throw at you can be solved with configuring windows to your specifications. Most people are just too lazy or stupid to do the work and rather complain.

I actually like the new start menu. Took a while to get used to it but the tile system is pretty neato.

Overall the system runs nicely, I have absolutely no problems at all. It doesn't delete shit as some people say. I'm pirating stuff to test it out and unless BitDefender thinks it's a virus or something, nothing gets deleted or blocked.

Another nice thing is that you set your system up once and whenever you reinstall it, all your settings get set back up since they are in your profile.

I regularly fix people's PCs and laptops and I just install them Windows 10 if a reinstall is needed or they want it. It's much faster and easier for me. Plug in USB, install the OS in 10 minutes, update all the drives in 10-20 minutes, install the essentials in a few minutes and that's it. Pretty convenient to use.

No, really. If you actually cared about Windows' problems, which there are many, you would just install Linux or make a Hackintosh. But because you stay on W7, thinking it's the last "good" version of Windows you prove you have no idea what you're actually afraid of. 7 is the exact same shit as 10 functionally, and they even backported the telemetry, so if you haven't had automatic updates turned off since like 2012 you have it.

I'm not like >>387161240 who is probably an actual shill. W10 provides no performance boost in games, it's just not detrimental like people are claiming.

So why use Windows 10 rather than Windows 7 anyways? Windows 7 is aesthetically more pleasing and Windows 10 doesn't have much more features to bring to the table anyways, So why upgrade? Its a waste of performance and money when compared to earlier versions.

No. It would be stupid to expect people to complicate their lives so much that it consumes them. But there are things that require minimal effort, and not using a blatantly anti-privacy OS like W10 is one of them.

There is no one perfectly shut off from danger, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try taking steps to ensure it as much as they can/are willing to.

>maybe adopting the "grey man" principle in public
Okay, that's too paranoid. Unless you live in a shitty neighborhood, why would you even do this?
>>
>>387168123
only had this problem until I changed virtual memory to a set size instead if letting Windows manage it

W10 is built from the ground up for surveillance, this has been shown time and time again, sometimes even on Twitter of all places.
You can try to fix it all you like, but you'll never have a guarantee that there's nothing running without your knowledge.

Had the same problem in 7 for months. The problem is the virtual page memory.
>>

The idea is simply not to stand out, present yourself like the average citizen. How is that paranoid? It just keeps you out of trouble.

>ma/g/got lies to make Windows 10 look bad
GOG blocked? Steam and Origin account banned?
Kek, is this what the average /g/ man thinks?
>>
>>387168070
That's always the norm. But Win10 deleting shit from my HDD is still pretty spooky.

After installing W10 the NSA blackmailed me with my porn (which I can no longer access), the government took my children, and the FBI shot my dog, also all my files were encrypted because they were considered "insecure".
All I can only look at a blinking cursor.
>>
>>387168123
That's a widespread issue that has existed in 7 and 8.1.

>>387168406
Never had W10 deleting anything from my HDD yet.

I'm still using 7. Even the newer Kabey Lake processors can run a clean install on win 7. It requires some tinkering to get updates but it beats the hell out of "upgrading" my OS..

should have opted for a ssd

It was his own fucking fault.
