Because communities can be part of the game's quality, and if the community is dog shit, the overall experience is lessened.

I had a better time playing oldschool MMOs back when there were no furry, overly fragile roleplaying faggots spouting memes but everyone was focused on socializing and working towards a goal in the game, with big burns and big drama in which everyone participated.
Now log into an MMO, all the interaction you're going to get is people sitting in town spamming reddit meta shit and 95% of the population instantly blocking you if you dare message them for any reason.

This applies to any game to a lesser extent, including singleplayer. You want to discuss, talk, enjoy, do a challenge maybe, even telling a good joke about a game. You can't do that when it's an echochamber of 12 year old 9gaggers spouting vine-tier shit. So compared to games that have better communities, the overall impression on the game WILL inevitably be lessened, no matter how hard you cry about it.

Even if you play games in a vacuum later on there is still value to checking out a speedrun or an expert on the game who spent 8000 hours on it who found exploits and whatnot. It's just interesting if you really liked the game. If that community is shit, that experience will be shit.
