It's oddly lighthearted JRPGs, with very little "kill god" and a lot more "make deadlines for your work". Since alchemy - item crafting - is a central mechanic most of the time you will be doing three things:
1. Collect materials from dungeons
2. Explore dungeons to get access to new materials
3. Kill (boss)monsters to get (rare) materials and complete some quests

If you think the cuteness of the girls is a factor in how good a game is, then they're pretty damn good games. If gameplay is all you care about then they're mediocre, and mostly because of their uniqueness in focus. There's nothing revolutionary in them.
