I just OC'd my monitor to 77hz. Is it still worth buying a 144hz panel or should I wait for the tech to mature at higher resolutions and prices to come down?
I use a 144hz panel now, the AOC one that everyone has.
It's amazing, 120hz~ content is a bliss to watch/play. OCing your monitor to 77hz comes no where close to it.
is it worth the 250 dollar price tag? no.

>overclock 60hz monitor to 77hz
fucking why kill your monitor when you should have just bought a higher base hz to begin with.
Resolution also doesn't really matter in terms of response. Seeing as BenQ has a true 240hz monitor at 1080p. That would be the absolute best over the shit that's 1440p or higher with interpolated 144 to 240 which kind of looks like shit in favor of resolution.
Do you want response or looks, pick one and one only in the next 10 years.

This.
FPS>RES.
Both together are mind blowing, but until you can afford running 4k games at 60 fps I'd say splurge for a 120hz or above monitor.

you can get decent prices if you look long enough. i got this for 200 bucks

just make sure you use a DP or HDMI connection, because DVI / vga does not support 144hz

DVI-D single and dual channel links support up to 165hz.
HDMI only supports above 60hz if you're using HDMI 2.0 or greater.
DisplayPort is the only one to support above 165hz currently and there is only one true 240hz monitor in existence currently.

you're right
I returned it back to 60hz. I might as well buy another panel.
I got this one as a gift.
tfw spent $400 on my ips panel from years ago
only does 60fps
Where can I learn about not being a moron and buying worthwhile computer parts?
