Geckos are supposed to be these enemies that are easy to kill, but also can easily hurt you if they get close. There's a shit ton of NPCs in FO2 who talk about how bad their bite is, how they they've been crippled because they let their guard down, ect. I hate how Jswayer fucks it up even more. Both that mod and the ultimate edition have some kind of bizzare hatred for the Grunt perk. The assault carbine is weaker per bullet without the perk. With it, it only does the same damage. This is fucking horse shit. At least the vanilla perk makes it so the assault carbine does more damage per bullet than the minigun. A far buff, considering how the minigun hold 240 bullets and assault carbine holds 24.
