I don't stay a whole console generation behind, but I wait at least a good year, if not more for any new console now
I only bought a PS4 earlier this year now that it's got a good amount of games I want, and I'm going to wait until at least 2018 to get the Switch
I've got more than enough games in my backlog to keep me entertained until a new console becomes a justified purchase

I'm actually so psyched that I've managed to stay clear of Bloodborne spoilers outside of memes. I know of Kirk and his hammer and Micolash and of Ludwig, but know nothing about them.

Plus DQ Builders and Nioh and Bloodborne 2 and FFXII Zodiac. I use the 'off season' to upgrade my PC and it usually deprecates after five years at which point I pick up the console and exclusives. Truly the patrician method.

Really wanted Heavy Rain, Tokyo Jungle and Journey but didn't buy. Sold everything except Destiny and Demons back to the shop after. Destiny is basically worthless now.

Skipped God of War and Uncharted because they looked a bit unappealing to play through fresh series.

Oh shit and Dragons Dogma on the gard drive.
