Except that's wrong, you can start as a redguard, put long blades in major skills and hit about 80% from the start. Even without the racial bonus you hit a decent amount of times if you're not dumb and run til you're out of fatigue.

Well, it certainly would be considered an outdated line of thought these days, but older RPGs were all built like Morrowind in one fashion. They all considered the skill of playing to be in planning out your character and actions beforehand. Also the effort of gathering what you needed for it. If you planned properly, encounters would just be the result of your efforts rather than the effort itself. If you planned poorly and slacked off in the prep work, you had a shitty time.

Modern RPGs are more 'in the moment'. It'll all work out so long as you have reflexes and timing regardless of how much of a cock munch you were about fucking up your build.

On a casual level, they do. We're making comparisons between new and old RPGs, after all. They just don't reward it as much as they could compared to other genres. RPGs have never, and still don't, take huge amounts of reflex. They are slowly sliding towards the realm of action games, but they're currently stuck in a bastard state somewhere between the two.

Though if you want an example, any souls game. You can literally beat the game on a level one build if you master the combat mechanics well enough. Doing that in a Bethesda game will involve things usually considered exploits.

It has nothing to do with steam. FO3 was and still is an atrocious release. Back when I tried to play it on its own for the first time on PC, when I finally managed to launch it and have it playing at a decent frame rate everything was moving in half or quarter speed. I honestly couldn't tell you how I fixed it anymore. I'm honestly shocked there's as many mods for FO3 as there is considering how even on a modern system usually just getting into the game itself is a problem.

I started playing a few weeks ago with modded Morrowind, and I have been using:

>Morrowind Overhaul. Great one to start with, although you will want to update some of the outdated parts. Fixes a lot of stuff with the game.
>Morrowind Code Patch with Skill Uncapped enabled and some of the side optional ones. Pretty essential, since there was a TON of stuff Bethesda did not fix, on top of other things.
>MGE XE. Pretty much required for doing anything on a modern machine, including fixing the UI scaling on bigger resolutions, better view distance options, etc. Must have.
>Better bodies and heads.
>Melian's Teleport Mod. Jesus this thing has been great. I know some people might hate it since it is technically fast travel, but it makes the Mark and Recall spells so much better since you can Mark and Recall multiple places now. I personally didn't use it until like 25 hours into the game and after I had explored a lot of the map.
>Mesh Improvements is a decent one.
>Skies IV makes a lot of the skyboxes look a lot better.
>Better Dialogue Font
>Oblivionized Magicka Regeneration makes the magic regen closer to Morrowind. Technically a little bit of a cheat, but I only use it for teleport, jumping, and levitate mostly.
>Carry Unlimited is a good one if you dislike the weight limits in Bethesda games. I personally do something like this for every game I play of theirs, so it is a personal choice.

Everything works pretty well together and have not had too many issues.

Streamlining isn't a bad thing when it's fixing shit like bad controls. The problem is you're mistaking "dumbed-down" for "streamlined". Making fatigue completely nonexistant as a mechanic wasn't streamlining, it was dumbing the game down. Making spells cast with the press of a button rather than readying and casting was streamlining. Making magicka regenerate over time wasn't streamlining, it was dumbing-down. Etc

I got Morrowind free with my 7800gtx and then bought it again when the GOTY version with the expansions included.
It was my first ever 3d open world RPG, so for all it's faults it'll always be the best for me because nothing can beat nostalgia blinkers.

But there are some little touches that I missed in the later games, like separate slots for both hands and shoulders allowing more customisation of the look, and every race having a distinct VA (abet only barks since the dialogue was all text) rather than 'human' 'elf' and 'beast'

Just join house Telvanni, loser. Once you get your sweet shroom house, mark your front door. This location can reach a specific temple teleport that is in the same building as a mage's guild. Recall home. Teleport to imperial temple. Walk next door to the mage's guild. Pretty much fast travel without feeling like you're cheating.

No ENB, just the better bodies mod, and probably a hair/face mod (can't remember exactly what was included with BB).

It's a 2004 vintage screenshot so my memory is pretty faded now.

I didn't install the better clothes mod though, because at this point the game became finding every type of shirt, and finding out which one made the best slutty minidress I could peek up and BC cut them all off at the waist and killed the tease.

Bitch, this isn't the age of industry where trains are the hot new thing to speed goods along. Transporting goods by animals is slow, but the point wasn't to go faster than someone on foot. It's to transport a larger amount of goods than one person could carry on foot. It's also a stupid idea to have laden animals running with their goods. Animals aren't invincible after all, and while they are strong they are also more prone to serious injury than people.

This is the one thing I hate the most. It's such an ingrained bail out mechanic that it's impossible to mod the necessity of it out without fucking the game up. If you make chugging an expectation, it's always reduced to brain death cause you can chug your way out of any mistake. The game has no kind of forgiveness or recovery mechanic besides potions, so that mistake is unavoidably fatal otherwise. If you make a rule to do without potions, then you need to mod the game to be so easy that there's no point in playing.

First, figure out what sort of character you want to make
Then, find a race with stats and racial bonuses to support that playstyle
Then, make a custom class that boosts the stats and skills to further increase your powers
Then pick a birthsign that doesn't give a raw stat boost like The Lady or Steed because you can just get stats by leveling
The final character screen gives you tooltips for everything so if you're not sure what something does, get reading
There, you just successfully made a non-shit character that will be able to easily trounce the game

Its been a while since I replayed this and now feels like the time. I always love mages and DoTs. Are there a good amount of dots I can throw on enemies in the game? I know you can craft your own spells but i dont know how useful the DoTs may be. Also what build would go best for a mage? I was thinking conjure and destruction. I normally like to play on the hardest difficulty in rpgs because I love the rationing and survival aspect of being low on money and having to make big financial decisions. Thanks
