You just have to set other goals that you can declare a win in your mind while still losing. From something as small as making your opponent use a different string of attacks to beat you than they've been using, or punishing just one thing, to taking a round off of them.

My problem with losing online (mostly in fps) is that I flip my shit. I'm not a hormonal teenager but I can't control that anger seven times out of ten. Going ayy lmao helps but that's not a solution.

Also I freak out when I lose in fighting games against CPU. One time I dragged a PSX controller against the wall, leaving skidmarks from the analog sticks. That's one of my weakest moments and about 15 years ago.

honestly the best thing you can do is gather some friends and then just make a team and join a local league. in my experience, people who play at the lowest grade (like D or C grade, depends on the place) are all pretty much beginners anyway

HSG might be as close as you get. It's set in the early 90s so it's mostly SF2, some Darkstalkers and then they talk about some other historical game stuff. It's not Shounen.

Online gaming helps with that.
Play against other people without them communicating with you in any way, until you feel confident that you're good enough to go to in-person event and win some of your games.
It might be difficult to tell where the skill level at tournaments will compare to the skill level online though; recently released games tend to have loads of bad players online, and obviously some tournaments are locals mostly attended by casuals, while some are largely people who fancy themselves as pro e-sports players.
