It has no progression, no sense of improving that you can immediately see due to the clusterfuck nature of the game, and it is a VERY unrewarding game that is also an aggressive time sink. There's next to no maps, they keep adding really dumb and annoying characters and there's really just nothing to do after you do your initial ranking. Ok i'm platinum, ok im bronze, etc.

You can try to improve, and really this is the ONLY form of content it has, but the nature of the game along with the tools it gives you leads no real way to get better. There is a topping out to skill levels in that game and it's incredibly low. I stopped playing a lot after season 2 but I was always high ranked, and even coming back a year later I just stomp on peoples nuts but lose because the game does not reward you for being the only good player. Near the end of most people's enjoyment of the game, I think the same thought goes through everyone's mind : "This isn't fun enough to cover up for how little there is to do"

Final Fantasy 13. Everything about this boss (pic related) was so unsatisfying that it was the barrel that broke the camel's back for me. I was okay with most parts of the game up until this point. My issue with it was that after spending whatever time defeating him, the game treated my time like it never happened. When he reappeared in his human form after defeating him, he had no cuts, scratches, bruises, injuries, did not sweat, did not pant, or show literally anything that said a boss fight happened. If he showed any kind of trait like that, I would have been satisfied, but that never happened. He just came down and started talking as if we didn't fight in the first place. Boss battles are one aspect of a game I really enjoy and appreciate. Seeing how it was handled here made me not want to keep playing.

FFXV was also a dumpster fire when it came to its stories but at least Ardyn was likable as a boss. Unlike Bishop Turd, he actually had some personality and emotion. He wasn't the best character but the build up to the final confrontation with him was pretty solid and kicking his ass felt so good because of that.

The anime did that scene more justice. Welkin didnt go "Aww shucks :( Oh well time to move on!" like he did in the game. He actualy showed some change, realising that war is actualy happening and that it could hit everyone, so he becomes this cold, emotionless general that wants success without any loss. Only after overtaking their hometown and visiting his (destroyed) home, he becomes more cheerfull (after an actual emotionaly moving scene).

I've dropped Fallout 4 around the time I've visited the airship for the first time. I was barely thrown away with the shitty main quest till that point, but visitng the airship convinced me there is really no point playing any further.

After I've slogged through Darkest Dungeon, hit the final location, scrapped through it...
... and learned you need to repeat that shit 3 times more, but without the heroes you've used for that already.

Grindfest can be fun, but this was just really, really bad game design.

Starbound is not in a good place. It ditched everything that made early beta fun. The story is shit, the random generation is watered down, and "unique" monsters are more common than randomly generated shit. Mechs were a huge disappointment too.

I do like Subnautica though. That's the only early access I've bought that I liked.

Years ago, Starwolves3, there's a mission where one of your pilots is meant to die. All of the enemies on screen will target them towards the end of a main-mission quest encounter.

So I try having the targetted pilot return to hanger, and all enemies target my mothership killing it for a game over.

So I savescum, trying different loadouts, having the target pilot in the fastest ship possible to kite as much as possible, jump into hanger and pop back out to cycle shield recharges, blow every expendable dmg ability on my other fighters.

Eventually somehow I pull it off. My reward is a special game over cut scene with a voice over of someone bitching about how the game is so unfair.

I'm still mad to this day.

I'm getting close to that is Bravely Default thanks to that fight in Central Command against Crow and the other bosses. The fight just feels unfair. I mean hell, I grinded up to the max level, and they still take me out like it was nothing.

And yeah, I know there is a strategy on beating them easily if you use a specific set of jobs and what not, but idk, it just feels poorly planned that a normal boss fight would be so hard that you max level can't stand up to them. A final boss or post game boss, sure, but not some normal boss fight.
