I think the ever apparent hate culture that surrounds games is really annoying, to be honest. no one wants to play a game for what it is, always for what it could be and then to compare it to something else, constantly looking for ways it's not quite the thing they think it should be and when it has a small problem during some marketing campaign these things are bought into the spotlight in a way that makes these things seem oh so important when in reality these problems that were "glaring" just disappear and were never important anyway.

Wanting games to suck is a horrible attitude when it'd be much better for games to be good, even if you don't like them.

Yeah, I don't think it's our hobbies that really make us cynical, it's just life issues in general. So we look for games to satisfy a particular niche of escapism while the industry mainly caters to a more profitable demographic that isn't expected to nitpick about the finer details of everything.

People became too obssessed over small things in video games. Multiplayer games are hyper competitive and developers push microtransactions and esports too much. As much as we all want to disagree, the majority of /v/ users all grew up in the same time frame, playing the same games at the same age. We all just grew up. This is why we see so many threads that discuss nostalgia, or complain about newer games or whatever.

We all just grew up and found responsibilities outside of videogames. The few times we get together to discuss them, of course most of us will seem bitter or reminiscent. We want to get back to an easier time when we had no responsibility, nothing to bother us, and hours on hours to play games.
