Day9 is a very well-known and respected figure in esports that has been around for a very long time, but he is not a Dota player. The bot used machile learning, he is very limited by the expirences he already had. And it was just 1v1 SF with neither!runes bottle and neutrals. It was a simpler mode than the official 1v1 mode, and a single hero. Normal dota is many orders of magnitude harder for a team of bots to git gud.

Since video games are fun and students have a fuckton of time to play them you really need to dedicate 8-12+ hours a day to a single game for a good amount of time to become a pro player.

I got addicted to Dota 2 while in uni, I played about 8 hours a day and I was matched with pros often back when the highest anyone really got was 6k, I was 5.5 at the time.

All I remember is getting flamed every game for refusing to pick normal heroes, I had to play whatever was considered the worst hero in each patch since I wanted to humiliate my opponents as much as possible.

Esports is a bubble. By the time you've climbed to the top of the latest big game, it won't be a big game anymore or the bubble will burst. Dota is already in decline, literally 350k viewers for the GF on twitch.

Yeah, Day9 felt really miscasted as a host at TI. I watch his new videos now and then still and think he can be pretty entertaining, but his understanding of the game and knowledge of events in the DotA scene up until now are just way too lacking. Maybe if he had played the game for another year or something so he doesn't say too much nonsense. Felt like some of the people got really tired of him sometimes up there, and he didn't get involved in discussions and analysis for the games because he just doesn't have anything to contribute.
