suggested, DQ1 and 3 are simple but fun. Fallout 1 is a pretty fun game. Maybe give Etrian Odyssey on the DS a shot. Hell, any Pokemon game is a good early RPG, and the Mega Man Battle Network games are tons of fun. Try out Adventures of Mana, maybe?

Can't recommend Planescape: Torment enough, it has an enhanced edition on Steam that I wholeheartedly recommend buying. It's a 1999 infinity engine game, and if you've never played an IE game before, it might be a little tougher for you to get into it because of its age but once you get used to it and get a few hours in, it can really suck you in impressively well considering its age. It has, imo at least, unparalleled writing for a video game, and it does a very good job of packing in a LOT of content without shoving it in your face, you have to seek it out (the whole game doesn't hold your hand, either, no quest markers) and it encourages multiple playthroughs.

So what exactly are you looking for? If you want something like D3 but better, than Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre should be the best TRPG's. They have a stronger emphasis on timing and positioning and can be a bit harder than Disgaea games.

Not sure if you're trying to sound like a uncultured nigger or not but Fallout 1 is fucking amazing. And you can literally cut to the chase from the beginning from the game. Go right left as soon as you leave the vault and you can beat the game.

Dragon Quest is basically the same game every time and it's perfect because all you want is more DQ, can't get enough of it. Final Fantasy has tried just about everything in one game or another and sometimes it works while other times its a gigantic flop.

You realize most JRPGs are just copies of old WRPGs with anime reskinned over them right? The RPGs the japs copied were before stories were big in RPGs outside of interactive fiction which they never really got involved with anyways, so it's basically all shit. JRPGs are largely dev inserted MCs and railroaded storylines. There is a total separation between JRPG storylines and WRPG storylines since the genres went completely different directions. The closest japs come to actual RPGs are those rape dungeon sims or whatever they keep churning out.
