You're clearly playing on the easiest settings possible.
Are you even playing on the latest patch or is this just an older version without all the extra research and other changes that increase the game time a lot?
Also good luck scaling with that factor layout.
You'll have some logistical problems soon enough.

I wish I didn't look up factory layouts when starting this game and continued to make retarded layouts like this but I'm afraid that would have just made me frustrated with the game.

I made retarded layouts for a while. I had to restart the game like twice until I really figured out why everything went to shit right around when I start mining and processing oil. You're not missing much of anything.

Now I've got train and satellites and nanobots and everything is great.

Put miners on both side of the belt.
Have your copper, iron, and other major resources like steel, green circuits, and gears run through the center of your factory
Branch off when you need the resource with a splitter

Don't feel bad this game is hard as hell. The only reason my factory looks decent is because I looked up some factory tips for beginners because my shit wasn't working.
And yeah I feel you it's pretty hard to plan for what you need when you don't know what's all in the game yet.
