It's a game that naturally created itself and gained a following without money getting pumped into it. Also, as much as people will deny it, it's a great competitive game with a lot of depth and variety. The formula is pretty flawed for casual play, but in tournaments it works very well.

LoL is the mass marketed, streamlined, butchered take on the same formula. Its competitive scene is driven entirely by Riot's money, it's incredible sterile and its developers force one strict specific way to play it, and its monetization system is ultra jewish at the cost of competitive fairness.

LoL is incredibly easy to hate and people tend to group Dota in with it and give it the same undeserved shit.

Both competitive scenes are heavily funded by themselves. Valve just likes to pretend it's all the people funding it, but only 25% of the international's battle pass goes to the prize pool and the rest goes to Valve.

I think it really rounded out some heroes that had some issues. A lot of supports that had no means of gold income got some gold talents (Ancient Apparition), some melee carries without lifesteal got some minor lifesteal talents (slark), etc.

I think adding talents added a new way to balance out the roster without "reworking" anyone. There were some growing pains when they were first introduced (Bloodstone Lina + Respawn Talent was annoying as fuck), but after removing all respawn talents the game has become a lot better.

I stopped playing because I just got sick of it. I will probably pick it up again to try out the new heroes. Hopefully the patch itself shakes things up a lot. I think old DotA had some very boring supports, some very locked-in and unwinnable midgames, and a general slow pace of play.

Dota 2 is one of the most interesting multiplayer games out there. Every game feels different, unlike League where it's the same shit every game. Even CSGO turns into people doing the same shit over and over again and falling into the same routines. Dota is at least more dynamic.

I quit playing about 2 years ago. If I remember when they're on, I'll watch one of the big tournaments on my other screen when I play stuff. It's still fun to watch, but I don't want to play again. I'm so out of the meta, and even if I wasn't, the community is just awful. I had a blast playing with friends, but solo queuing is for sure a circle of hell.

I gave up at over 3k hours once Techies got nerfed into being useless, I was sick of my favourite heroes getting nerfed once pro players discovered them.

I'd always choose whatever people thought was the worst hero in the game and then figure out a way to play them that would wreck faces.

Did it with Axe, Kunkka, Doom, and Techies, all of which got buffed massively at some point and then every faggot in the world played them and then they became homo tier.

But it was really fun watching pros call me a faggot on stream when they died to mine stacks back in 6.83 while they were going full HO HO HA HA.
