Is Sleeping Dogs any good? Does it capture the vibe of

Sleeping Dogs is great. Its well optimized, the soundtrack and radio stations are good, the characters are well acted and likable, driving through a rainy Hong Kong is comfy as fuck, and the combat though basic feels satisfying. The only problem is that the ending blue balls you and because the devs shut down there's no hope of sequel save for a movie in production starring Donnie Yen

Pretty much perfectly, but the driving is kinda shoddy and the shooting is straight up garbage. Thankfully the game is 85% melee combat though and the shooting segments are few and far between.

It's absolutely worth getting.

It's fucking fantastic, but it's a buggy nightmare. Off the top of my head I can think of three game breaking bugs, two of which can't even be fixed by completely deleting all the data and starting over. And others that don't make the game un playable, unless you don't like the idea of permanent loud machine gun noises playing constantly that carry over to any new game you start.

Otherwise, fun melee, great side missions, and genuinely good writing.

Sure, you won't get much driving done, but think of all that vertical movement.

Everyone should play Sleeping Dogs. Don't expect the most amazing game ever, don't expect it to be one of your favorite games or even favorite open world game. But everyone should at least play it. it's good.

Sleeping Dogs is arguably the best open world game since Vice City.

Last time I replayed the game I throw her in the trunk of the smallest car (Bisai, I think), carefully managed to put the car on top of a boat, and then started driving the boat to the island where Jackie was buried. There, I would jack her body out of the trunk and hide her and kill her on some remote place on the island.
The car fell in the water halfway through the journey to the island.

I wouldn't mind if it was, but another large Asian city would be fine too. So long as it had that great compact and neon aesthetic going on. From a purely game play perspective Sleeping Fog's city wasn't that great, but I still find it more enjoyable and memorable than GTA IV's or V's because of that brilliant atmosphere.

To be fair, GTA V's gunplay is decent, but you realize it's shitty once you compare it to Max Payne 3, which came before, and i know Max Payne 3 is a bunch of corridors with load screens between them which means Euphoria can have it's settings cranked really high to create some great ragdoll and physics but even Red Dead Redemption had more satisfying shooting GTA V, so Rockstar has no excuse.

I actually loved the driving.
Though unrealistic, the fucking dedicated ram button was great fun to abuse.

I loved flying around in that smart car.
You could take 90 degree turns without slowing down by ramming in to the turn, or getting crazy air from jumps by ramming forward.

Tbh playing gta after having so much fun with that ram mechanic was kind of a let down. It definitely spoiled me. I wish more games had something like it.
It was fun just overriding physics like that.

Kind of. Melee is definitely pretty brutal and satisfying, but it's Banham combat so there isn't any complexity. Gun fights are really floaty but there's tons of opportunities for slow-mo which makes it bearable. Driving is very arcadey, more GTA V than GTA IV. And the story is just a basic undercover cop story.
