Yeah, sorry, Shrine is what I meant. I was confusing my weeb game save points with Okami. But yeah, that big gate next to the shrine is a shortcut. Once you get to the shore, don't go on the ship. Find the path that leads to the other side of that gate so you can open it.

It's a good tutorial level imo. Forces you to learn how to beat mobs of human enemies wielding different weapon types, learn yokai patterns, and environmental hazards. The boss of the level teaches you about dodging and using your stances.

Dodging in low stance consumes less ki, dodge his attacks and switch to high stance to get a couple hits in, then back up and switch to low stance, repeat. Most bosses can be defeated this way.

Don't stay too close to him or stay close to him for too long. The spinning attack in the first phase can be hard to escape if you're too close and his throwing attack in the second phase has some weird ass tracking when you're super close.

The game actually gets easier the further through it you get if that makes you feel any better, end of island one- middle of island 3 is probably the best part of the game.

Might be easy modo but you can trivialise every single enemy and boss with sloth talismans so i wouldn't recommend using magic unless you want the game to be laughably simple.

7 or 8/10 game, would be better with more weapon and enemy variety.

If you're feeling extra autistic, you could repetitively reforge a tombo-kiri with a 24.9% merciless barrage roll. That's probably what I'd do for a spear build. Maybe that plus tatenashi.
