There are parts you can't get through because you need to be going full speed. There are parts where if you are running you can't stop in time when a new enemy pops on screen. Truly evil enemy placement/level design. It's no wonder they didn't release it in the west initially. Definitely the worst Mario game I've ever played.

I just had an excellent Spelunky daily challenge - that is, up until I got to Yama and killed the demons with bombs rather than my shotgun for some stupid reason, causing me to run out of bombs.
I then dropped my shotgun in the lava.
I tried to kill Yama with my whip, but something knocked me out and I fell into the lava and died.

I still got over 500k, but I only came 33rd on the leaderboard. If I hadn't thrown at the last moment I might have been top 15 or better.
