So here's two new games in a row where the PS4 Pro version of a game is head and shoulders above the PS4, not just in graphics or resolution, but framerate and stability. PS4 Pro is becoming the default choice, while new PS4 releases are becoming more and more unplayable. So you you guys still like the idea of console refreshes? PS4 and soon Xbone owners are going to learn what it's like playing games at minimum PC specs, as the vanilla models get left behind by developers.
>>
>>386952643
Same thing happened with the 3ds, will most likely happen with the switch as well. Case in point, always wait until the console gets a more powerful revision before buying one
>>
I think it's a good idea.

I'd consider buying the xbox one x if they made it $700 but took away paid online and GUARANTEED all games could be played on pc.

Another quality product from Sony.

Wo fucking cares?
>>
>>386952794
I have the the base model slim. Is it just me or does the entire console feel like a cheap PoS? If I go to adjust its position or even just apply pressure, the thing feels like it'll break apart.
>>
>>386953636
It's clearly a sign of things to come. If AA devs are focusing on the PS4 Pro rather than the PS4, how long until AAA devs follow suit? It makes more sense for publishers to invest in the "enthusiast" platforms like Pro and Xbone X, since base PS4 and Xbone owners don't give as shit about framerate. AAA devs will optimize for PS4 Pro and give PS4 the scraps since the consumers never complain anyway.

The PS4 Pro still isn't worth buying

if you care about framerate stability and graphics in general you'd be playing on a PC, not a gimped laptop
>>
>>386952794
I bought the Pro and this surprised me, too. And it actually makes my desk vibrate, too. Jesus Christ, what's up with the blu-ray drive on this thing?
>>
>>386952791
I'd buy one if it had fucking exclusives I cared about
>>

What the fuck would be the point then? For $700 you could just get a PC that's equal or better in performance.
>>
>>386955297
The main thing you'd buy a console for is exclusives but seeing as we're talking about the xbox here I have to agree even if I am not a PC gamer.

Eh, I don't think anyone was expecting it to really run games at proper native 4k resolution. Checkerboard 4k looks decent enough on Horizon or Rise of the Tomb Raider.

>>386955649
Sony made it mandatory for all games to run at 1080p or above. Hellblade, Nioh and Battlefield 1 have drops below 1080p. People were expecting better than 900p and lower.

Yeah, just like nobody was expecting PS4 to be able to do 1080p 60FPS at minimum despite assertions to the contrary, right?
>>
>>386955957
Yep, no one who's a little tech savvy was expecting 1080p 60 fps. It's just not viable financially speaking, you need at least a reasonably expensive mid-tier computer for that.

I think the PS4 is just much more cheaply made, which doesn't surprise me, given Sony's reputation and cheaping out on hardware.
>>
I think the ps4 pro and the oneX is the best way to console to move forward. Making sure the old rendition working till version after next, with ideally new versions coming out every 3-4 years, will be great. Being in the same architecture, library will get larger and staying onpar with current technology. What's not to get excited about?
>>
>>386956243
It would have been possible if devs weren't idiots and still had the ability to optimize games instead of just throwing their hands up and saying "well the gpu/cpu will take care of it lmao." Instead of focusing on making games look shiny for mouthbreathers they could easily dial shit back and achieve at least that and still have the games look passable considering that most games have such little difference between low and high settings now. I just don't get this insistence on pushing highest graphics and 4k of all shit when it's going to be at a silky smooth 23 FPS.
>>
>>386955552
Lawbreakers probably suffers from the same issue all multiplayer shooters on console have, the CPU just isn't strong enough. Hellblade looks pretty though, especially on PC.
>>
>>386956614
Running on outdated hardware, you deserve to be fucked
>>
>>386956525
I own both an Xbone and a PS4, and I'd sooner by an XboneX than a PS4 Pro. Even if it has the liquid cooling meme, it seems like the better purchase for $500. Sony loves to cheap out on hardware. The fat PS3 I had near launch was pretty much busted from the start, considering games would glitch the fuck out. I also had multiple PS2's break on me for no reason. Meanwhile, I never had a problem with my 360. At the very least, if there's one thing Microsoft does well, it's hardware.

I own a Pro. I decided to pick it up once Yakuza and Nioh dropped and I figured it finally had enough exclusives to warrant the buy. I kept away from the original PS4 specifically because of those performance issues and because I already had a PC that blew it out of the water. I just think it's bullshit that they sacrifice good performance over having shit look shiny when it barely looks better and runs like ass. I recently bought Shadow of Mordor for like $5 and even on the Pro it only runs at 30 FPS max whether it's being supersampled or not, because outside of the 4k supersampled mode they just turn the graphics options up and cap the FPS at 30. It's bullshit considering 3 years ago my PC could hit a constant 60 in that game even without top of the line parts.
>>
>>386955297
>For $700 you could just get a PC that's equal or better in performance.
I didn't know this, in that case I'd just stick with pc
>>
>>386957068
I think Sony made the mistake of planning the ps4 pro around the fact that a ps5 is in the pipeline. I think they should remedy that and focus om hardware boost, instead a new generation.
>>
>>386956525
>the best way for consoles to move forward is to turn them into incremental upgrades the same way PCs are, only with less choice and likely to be more expensive overall
>>
>>386954817
yea but they cant figure that shit out because consoletards
>>
>>386952643
Pro is loud as fuck in some games which makes it completely uncomfortable to use.
>>
>>386952794
Yeah, I got a Pro and shit just started to sound like a vacuum cleaner all of a sudden. I returned it and got a Slim and got the same fucking noise but in other games now. Slim is a bit more tame and slow down after a few moments though, so I definitely more happy with it than with Pro.

The fact that it's such a consistent problem among multiple hardware iterations really just goes to show how cheaply made it is. I honestly don't believe the people that say they have a quiet PS4, it's practically nonexistent. Anywhere I put it it's still loud as fuck, and the moment I boot up a game it's like the fucking thing is about to take off.
>>
>>386957549
Nah the PS4Pro was based on the fact that computation technology hit a TON of momentum with the standardization of 14-16nm transistors.
That was the true breakthrough and the reason why PS4Pro is a thing. Without that we would never have seen a PS4Pro.
>>
>>386958775
I have a slim and I can barely hear it even at full load. This is probably one of the main things preventing me from buying a Pro right now. I keep hearing people complain that the fan is loud as fuck.
>>
>>386959360
To be fair, the jet engine noise usually goes away after the games are installed. It's just that whenever the damn thing has to use the blu-ray drive YOU'RE GONNA KNOW.

The Pro's cooler will sometimes speed up and become noisy over here, but only after prolonged gaming sessions (maybe 6 consecutive hours or more).
>>
I have one. I wouldn't advise anyone who has a PS4 to go out and buy one because the gains just aren't worth it, but if you are in the position I was where I needed another PS4(my girlfriend started using mine a lot), it probably is worth the extra money.

>>386958627
Only time I've really had that happen is in the shop in Nioh. Holy fuck though, it gets SO fucking loud there.
>>
>>386959819
This is my main concern with the PS4 Pro, too. I was actually looking into getting one, but shit is honestly just not fucking worth it.
>>
>>386952643
>games run better on the more expensive model
Isn't that the whole point of the pro and x?
>>
>>386960308
The difference is on a planned obsolescence level.
>>
>>386960564
Yeah. Who thought it would be different. What's the point of buying a pro if I can play all my games on a slime or first version? There has to be a killer app for the system to sell.
