I bought it on launch. At the time it was what I needed and I got about 50 hours out of it. A good relax and take your mind off things game.
I haven't gone back to it since all the updates came out but even with what it was at launch I'd say $12 or whatever that price is in burgerbucks is about what it was worth.

Just know it's mostly walking around looking at shit and gathering shit to craft shit so you can look at and gather more shit to craft more shit forever

I bought it on release expecting nothing. It was okay, I expect they have added more stuff since.

My main concern with it was every interaction with the UI in the game is a hassle. Don't know if they fixed it but used to be if you talked to merchant NPC you couldn't just switch between buy/sell you had to stop talking to them completely and then start again.

Main reason people say it's shit (I think) is because they promised too much and never delivered. Fair criticism but not it's not judging the game for what it is.

It was mediocre on release and pretty repetitive, not sure how it is now though.
