What is the definitive version of Rayman 2? I want to play the best version of it.
I've played PS1, Dreamcast, DS, 3DS and a little bit of PS2 and out of those I'd say Dreamcast. Look into the PS2 version if you like the idea of an open world hub though.

N64 but on actual hardware.
Dreamcast

What makes the dreamcast version the best?
>>386938749
Out of all the versions I played it had the best graphics, performance and had more content (minigames).

The dreamcast version is usually always the way to go.
It's the best game console of its gen but is severely lacking in its game departement.
The above posts recommend Dreamcast so that's probably the one to try. Only played the PC and PS2 versions but the PS2 version is probably better if you're replaying it so you can try it out from a slightly different perspective.

Is there a story behind why the Gamecube port seems incredibly lazy?
Dreamcast, or Revolution (PS2).
Revolution has the most content and an overworld, but long loading screens.
only played ps1 and dreamcast version. dreamcast was unsurprisingly better

get the version on GOG
it has the graphics of the dreamworks version but it doesn't have that horrible island hubworld, it has the awesome starry hubworld that the n64 version had

>Long loading screens.
There like 5 seconds tops

It does not have the DC graphics.
>>386938010
Either play Dreamcast, PC, or PS2. These are the best versions.

Yeah, that's why he said Dreamworks.

I don't care what they say, the ps1 version is still better for me than the n64 because of the music quality.

The music in the N64 version isn't bad. I think they handled it pretty smartly. It sounds like an acoustic version of the music on the other platforms.

Aside from some interesting remixed levels, the PS1 version is pretty seriously downgraded otherwise.

All of them are shit because you can't play it through in 60fps
>>386939969
The Dreamcast died before its time.
>>386944172
The only gameplay benefits of PS1 are the better final boss and the Rayman 2 Beta at the end.
The PC version isnĀ“t bad either.
Retains both the Graphics and the Music.

Dreamcast is by far the best version. Crisp visuals, smooth gameplay, 60fps and native widescreen support.
N64 version is very similar with to the DC version, but 30fps and without some of the optimization the other game offers. Still great on the N64 anyway.
PS2 is an extended port of Rayman 2, with enhanced visuals and additional content, but it's pretty unpolished, with a few bugs and a pretty shocking framerate sometimes. I don't like the new hub world, as it's pretty big and easy to get lost in. Some do like it though.
PS1 is a gimped version, with a few drastic design changes due to the PS1's limitations. A good game but still inferior to the other versions.
Don't bother with the handheld versions.
