Nigger it was a third person shooter in dark environments, and said environments require you to kill everything alive in order for next door to magically become unlocked so that you can progress. And there is a fucking magic line that shows you where to go so that you don't get "lost".

If anything DS2 and 3 realized that they are not horror games no matter how much they wish they would be and they focused on what made them good - tearing up limbs and shooting shit.

So, so much wrong with what you're saying. The anons you replied to weren't speaking strictly in mechanics, so I'm not sure where you're getting that. At the end of the day though, all DS games have spooky shit like monsters and blood and weird noises, but they also have cool actiony shit like explosions and cool last minute escapes. If you think DS1 was a real horror game you either never played it, or played it way too long ago to remember it clearly. The ratio of explosions to scares definitely got tipped in the sequels but ut's not as big of a difference as you seem to think.
