They were my personal favorite and the ones I put the most time into. The last gen I played was Gen 4 but I felt they improved with each gen despite sometimes questionable pokemon designs. I started with Gen 1 and went back to play it recently and I can safely say it has aged horribly.

Well I mean it's better than the crap they've been pulling the past two generations but gen 3 was always middle of the road for me. The battle frontier in Emerald was a nice addiction but the lack of the physical/special split really hurt it. Didn't care for the Pokemon selection towards the end when it's mostly water routes and it has the same HM usage problems gen 4 has. Only difference is you're not fucked if you didn't pick the fire type in Hoenn. In Sinnoh it's pretty much Chimchar or nothing.

The best Pokemon game is your personal preference because the Pokemon series has had many different features over the years, and it's understandable that people who value different elements of the game would have differing opinions on which entry was the best, based on their preferred elements of the overall franchise

Anon, I'm a huge nostalgiafag for Ruby and I will always have a place for it in my heart, but it has some noticeable flaws, namely in the pokemon distribution and team selection. Wingulls and Zigzagoons are in so many of the routes. Why 9/10 Team Magma users were not using ground or fire types I will never understand, and same for Aqua and Water.
Bonus for being outshone by Emerald, even though I dislike some changes. Juan sucked dick and Wallace should not have replaced Steven as Champ. Shit triggered me hardcore.

I love it, and I'd rather play the originals than the remakes for it, but it is simply not on the level of Plat or B2/W2, or even B/W.

Started with R/B/Y. Played all others years after the fact, except Sun/Moon which were new.

Gen 2 was the most impressive. Added the most at once and was large in scope. R/S is where it got stale and did less, when it was on a system could have done much more.

The remakes of them actually do a great service to making them more interesting though.

Honestly, I just prefer RS. It's more refreshing to face Steven as the champion than some flamboyant former GL.

RS is mediocre and not worth playing for any reason but nostalgia at this point. Emerald and ORAS are pretty good though, even if ORAS is incredibly infuriating in how they ignored 95%+ of Emerald changes and additions and we'll never get a game with both the improvements of Emerald and ORAS together.

I've been playing Pokemon since gen one came out. Gen 1 and 2 are my favorite nostalgia games, as I spent a lot of time playing it withva next door neighbour.
