I was mostly fine with the dub when I played with it. Phi's VA feels like they kept getting directed to voice a little boy in one scene and a little girl in another, but really fucking pulls it off whenever Phi gets mad later in the game. Rokurou is extremely inconsistent with emoting, I feel like maybe they wanted to do something like have him appear sort of detached for things that don't particularly interest him but it's not even consistent in that way. Then Kamoana is ear rape. Those are the three I recall taking issue with. Velvet's good girl voice is too forced, also.

Though really the one reason I would say it's fine to play the dub is for whatever reason the skits later in the game have totally fucked up subtitles that are less intelligible than bad crabsticks. I dunno if they patched them since release but if not have fun not being able to understand anything but the intonation of those scenes if you don't know Japanese.

I will admit, the first time I played the game I played with the JP voices so I can accept my bias that she just 'became' Velvet to me internally. But even trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, all her lines sound very forced and over acted. Some of it could just be their voice lines were recorded on shittier equipment compared to the JP voices, but everything about the Eng dub sounds lower quality, from the talent to the general audio mixing. I'll retract the statement that she sucked, but I still think the JP VA is objectively better.

So how old was Alicia supposed tonbenwhen Regal was hitting that? The Exsphere age fuckery always confused me but it always felt like Regal was getting some pretty underage poon.

My favorite memory of ToS was the moment when you start going back to the temples to do some shit and you can skip right to the end. They break the fourth wall and mention how easy it was to skip the entire dungeon part of the temple and Lloyd is there confused wondering what the hell everyone is talking about.

The worst memory I have of this game is when I got my character stuck in between a table and an unmoving NPC in a house near the Snow/mountain area. I had to restart my game and I hadn't saved for a very long time.

I still like Colette and Lloyd the most after all these years. In fact in most Tales games I like the protagonist the most with a few exceptions.

Vesperia gets a bit dumb towards the end but I'd say there was just less potential to be wasted. Abyss opens with teasing this really interesting sound-based magic system with "fonons," Luke is said to be a rare "fifth fonon" user, Tear appears to be some sort of hypercompetent assassin/commando thing, it looks like it's going to be all about political intrigue, the Score seems like it promises some interesting things, and Luke is this highly amusing asshole who's a huge divergence from the typical RPG protag.

Then fonons turn out to be just generic magic, Luke never uses his voice for anything and the "fifth fonon" is actually just the "I'm the protagonist" badge, the sound thing never even comes up beyond being hinted at in the tuning fork iconography, the plot becomes generic as fuck, the Score turns out to just be an excuse for the protags to go all MUH MUST DEFY FATE, and Luke spends most of the game whining and moping and lusting after MASTER VAN's cock.

I dunno, the gameplay was great, don't get me wrong, but everything else was so disappointing. And Anise is honestly the worst character in any Tales game I've ever played.
